Poidog's 70g Tech Tank Build

Hhhmmmm you every try getting a bigger piece of PVC I know it's larger but maybe he is a little guy looking for a bigger place to live- Some little guys like to think BIG!...lol

1" is as big as I would go. There is lots of room for him in 1" and then corner elbow and entrance/exits are 3/4". he liked it very much in the nano, prior to the move. Here is a pic of the condo:

I've never seen a jawfish apartment before. That is hilarious. My diamond goby ("Jaws") just builds whatever he wants. (Well he did. We'll see if he survives the barebottom QT everyone is currently jailed in.)

it works out great - when they want to use it. just bury it under the sand with the entrance sticking out. I've seen others use barnicles instead of rolling the PVC in superglue and then sand (like what I did - it blends in better I think with the sand).

Just put on a latex glove, smear superglue gel where you want the sand, then roll it and press sand on the superglue. spot glue it where there are bare spots.

Small update-
Lighting:
I swapped out two of my t5s for ATI blue+ which is giving me more blue (then the previous purple) and makking my corals pop more. I'm still looking for the Fauna Marin Royal Blue t5 bulbs which no one apparently has in the US. They are supposed to mimic the color from the royal blue LEDs which really make the colors pop. I can buy them direct from FM but the shipping is €67... ouch. If someone wanted to try the bulbs too sand split shipping I'd be up for that.
Now I'm running:
Giesemann actinic+ (similar to blue+)
ATI Blue+
250w pheinox
ATI Blue+
Giesemann pure actinic

Jose update:
He's seemed to settle down more since I gave him much more rubble to play with. He burrowed right by the clowns and their host, but neither seem to mind since they were in close proximity in the nano as well.

I'll try to get some updated pics up this weekend.

My Helfrichi died this morning :(
Last night he wasn't acting right, was lethargic, labored breathing, the ends of he's rear tail were "burnt" and had brown spots on his body by the rear tail. He went to bed on the sand, in the open - strange behavior. I figured if he made it through the night he would recover. He didn't. Found the clean up crew eating him this morning. They had made it about 1/2 through him. All the other fish and corals are fine. I tested all my params, and everyhthing is perfect. And he wasn't harrassed by any fish.

Oh and the Helfrichi was named after my husband cause it looked like him, haha. And he's the one that found him 1/2 eaten this morning. I think he's hurt more than I am. Haha

Bummer Eric but you seem to have gotten over your grief pretty quickly

Can we see some coral pics?

Don't get me wrong, I'm bummed losing such a cool (and expensive) fish. Especially only after 2 weeks of purchasing it and having it take such a quick and unknown turn for the worse.

Went to my favorite LFS today and picked up some new things... a few snails, a skunk shrimp, and a garden eel. They've had the garden eel for about a month (saw it when it came in), it was a good price, so I thought I'd see if I could have success with the guy.

Also, Jose has finally found his condo! There is peace again in the tank.

Here are some acan shots. First is Malibu Beach from Cherry Corals, second is a green/red/orange rainbow.

I'm fully aware of the info that is out there on garden eels. I did deepen my sand bed for him. So far he looks happy and is bobbing up and down for food in the current. He's being much more active than at the LFS. Like I said, the LFS has had him for about a month, so here's hoping he's taken to a captive environment for a higher chance of success. Time will tell....

How about a small pic update :)

The garden eel likes to come out at dusk and forage for food

My new ORA Blue Mandarin from DD. First is him flashing off in isolation. The second is after he was released to the display. He arrived in great shape this morning, and was eating Ova while in isolation.

New granulosa frag I just picked up... I think it was a wild colony, so we shall see how it colors up.
