Police intervention

I wouldn't be surprised if that happened to me. Planted tanks is worse: meeting under street lights at night to exchange/sell a bag of some green aquatic "weed," buying fancy plant nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium), high energy bill, bright lights with heat signatures for the helicopters, etc.

A buddy from plantedtank.net does comics. This one is great:

Try parking at the State Troopers station with a bumper sticker with REEFER in big, bold, black letters and going in asking to be fingerprinted for a gun permit!!!
"Lucy" had a lot of 'splainin' to do that day!!!

BYW, they no longer do fingerprinting ( for non-arrest issues anyhow).

That was some funny stuff. I have often wondered about how suspicious it looked when I met someone to sell frags or equipment. With the hightened national security I wouldn't be surprised if all "reefers" weren't on a list somewhere in Washington.

At least they made it right with the reefers. I've read other newsclipping and follow up on reefing sites about doors being knocked down and when nothing was found out of line, the recipient of the broken door was told tough-we acted on credible information.

Within the first three days of moving to our house in Nashville, we had the homeonwers association president and wife accuse us of 'growing grass in our living room' when they saw the blue lights. They demanded that we put up something to block the blue light from coming out of our windows, as it was a distraction for them and they didn't like it (this is the same guy who was an elementary teacher that called the cops on the kids that played in the street in the cul de sac-never causing any issues). No one of any actual authority has ever made a move or statement, though.

Within a week of moving to Montgomery, I had a cop sit outside our dining room window one night for about 20 minutes looking in at the lights. He drove off and went about his day.

I have to wonder what people think when they see you meet someone in the edge of a parking lot at night and exchange baggies, or when people leave my house with little baggies:D. Sketchy sketchy.

mY landlord told me that when I first moved in that he thought I was growing and dealing weed from the coral trades and the lights coming from the windows. he came in one time to check it out and saw the 225 gallon reef in a one bedroom guest house and was like "holy crap!"you have an ocean in here! Soon after, I sold an extra tank to his girlfreind and she set it up freshwater to get her feet wet. Thats too funny. I have always wondered what the normal people were thinking.

Sometimes more;). This time of year, it's much better. My estimated monthly electrical costs due to the tanks is around $280... Well, that was before the 280 (it may actually be lower now-the larger tank offered some cost savings in electricity and replacements since I consolidated-need to update and see where I am now). Our AC is complete crap, so it is time for a replacement.

I remember when Don (imsqueak) bought a chiller because his 300G tank had his A/C running 24/7 and couldn't keep up. His electric bill dropped dramatically with the addition of a 1HP chiller. :D

I went the other route in my sunroom...since I've got 3 tanks I bought an oversized window air conditioning unit rather than multiple chillers. It's working pretty well.

However, I apparently need to invest in more tank heaters because everything is getting kinda chilly out there right now. Brrrrr.

I've never had a problem with my tanks running a little cooler, as far as coral/fish health goes.

With the new tank, I've suspended the lights. The canopy is enclosed on four sides, but open on top and bottom. When I hooked everything up into the tank room (separate room with a 150, 100, and 50 gal rubbermaid livestock feed tub-thanks Charles;)) earlier this year, the tank temp dropped about 5 degrees. If my skimmer pump didn't run, I had to run a heater... Need a low draw substitue for a Pan World 200;).

New windows, new doors, a new AC unit (this one leaks about 20 pounds of freon a year, it seems...) and this place would be rockin. Jenn keeps wanting to replace my MH with skylights...

I'm still using the old magnetic ballasts that I got from Randall at Aquatic Specialists years and years ago. I really need to upgrade to electronic ones at some point. But I really love these dang old things.

'Harvested' again today. Managed to get the shipment out before I caught any heat from the feds.
