For those of you with a SPS tank, if you run biopellets, do you run them alone, with GFO, with carbon, or both? And also mention if you would, if you add a bacteria with your biopellets like prodibio or MicroBacter7... Someone that I trust in he reefing world told me of his success adding an extra bacteria along with his biopellets.

Hi, I have run all three, now at bio-pellets and carbon, but adding GFO back in next week with a new reactor. Have not used any microbacter7 or anything, just let them take the 2 months to fully colonize, now have constant 1 ppm nitrates.

I ran only EcoBak pellets for 16 months w/ occasional carbon in a filter bag in the sump. Once my tank was full of fish and coral, the nitrates stayed undetectable, but my phosphates slowly started climbing up. It got to 0.26 ppm(hanna) at one point. I ended up adding about 30ml more of EcoBak to the reactor and increased the tumble/flow. It went down to 0.08 in 3 days. But that was as far as it would go on it's own. So I added another reactor with a mix of carbon and GFO and it holds steady at 0.03.
