pollution in our tanks - now what

I got tired (and confused in some areas) of reading the posts after page 3 but from what I gathered:

1. We have hvy metals in our tanks
2. regardless if they are the same concentration as NSW they are still considered toxic

Q - Is there something that will take them out, or let them be sucked into the skimmer, or converted to an inert form?

Q - Will active carbon have any effects?

Hi,

Yes

2. regardless if they are the same concentration as NSW they are still considered toxic

If the animals can absorb them, they are toxic. If they are bound to some of the organic materials they may not be toxic. Or they may be. Simply no data there.

Q - Is there something that will take them out, or let them be sucked into the skimmer, or converted to an inert form?

Nothing that works consistently for all of them.

Q - Will active carbon have any effects?

Some, but the level to which it works is also questionable.

hi Dr. Ron,
so just to clarify, are you saying that it wouldn't help? or it wouldn't hurt?

thanks,
jeff

I'm quite sure he is suggesting that carbon could remove some of these metals. Which ones and to what degree are not really known and are probably dependent upon the form(s) they take in your system among countless other variables...

FWIW, you may want to read the "meatier" posts in this forum. They may well answer many of your questions (like this very one).

Dr. Ron may well be the most patient man around. :D
My hat goes off...
