Polyp extension

I think I found out the reason why I don't have politics 10 during the day. I just received my reef information on the chemistry in the tank looks pretty good with the exception of silica and copper. I can't figure out how copper is getting in to the tank I use a really nice DI unit from Spectra pure it's a six stage filter. But the test show that a couple of bad things are still getting into the water here are the results let me know what you think. Phil:headwalls:

I would use something to try and pull the copper out, but do you have any metal fittings, hose clamps, anything that can possibly scale and fall off into the water? Did you buy anything used that may have been in a tank with copper in it or maybe the tank itself you got used and was treated with copper at one point?

Know everything is brand-new. Nothing has ever been associated with copper. But I do use the faucet outside I have no other choice when. the other day I added two more filters to the very front and and fill them with a very high grade charcoal from BRS am hoping that takes care of this.

Any way to test your water straight from the RO/DI filter? I would want to know if it is actually getting through the filter. If not, then it's introduced through some other means; it's worth checking.

Also, what would you see happening, if your potassium is that low? Is that level considered OK?

there other ways that copper can get introduced other than your rodi. Some equipment contain copper. (just a guess but things like chinese pump motors could contain copper winding). Before focusing in on your rodi, you should eliminate everything you can before experimenting.

AWT's results are pretty widely known to not be worth much consideration. Your lack of polyp extension is in all likelihood related to something else... I wouldn't even consider this an issue unless you have been dumping a lot of trace elements in your tank and not running any sort of chemical filtration.

I had the same problem and i added a poly pad and it removed it. till this day have no idea how it got in my tank, But every now and then i add a pad just to be sure. Hope this helps and they cost $10 bucks

here was my results

Okay guys, you're been so helpful thank you for your information I took some water from the DI filter the other day and sent it back to the company so they can check if copper is going through the filter system I should know Tuesday or Wednesday I'll keep you informed. Okay let me answer some questions the first thing the live rock has never had copper in it ever. Would never introduce copper in the tank ever. The pump I am using is made in Germany. I like the idea of that absorbent poly filter that sounds like an idea where can I get it at? Again thank you all for your help I'm going to get to the bottom of this sooner or later today I made 110 gallon water change that's big, the tank is only 175 includes the sump so hoping that helps a little bit I'll let y'all guys know soon as I hear back from the testing company thanks again have a great Memorial Day. Phil Michael by the way if you don't recommend AWT for testing who do you recommend?

You can also, I believe, order your own test kit for copper.

However, I am not sure of their accuracy since I've never used one.

Why would your outside faucet produce copper? It's all the same system of pipes.

I don't think they are referring as much to the pipes as the connections. I know my garden hose and my inside connections are made of different metals.

My entire house is built with copper tubing for all of the plumbing so what I'm thinking is maybe if the water sits in the pipes long enough copper leaches into the water and that's how it's getting into the system. I call the filter company yesterday I can have their sending me out a filter that is supposed to remove all metals. I'll keep you informed thanks again for your concern and help. Phil

A couple of days ago I made 110 gallon water change I can see the difference in the SPS they look a little better polyps are starting to come out just a little. Tuesday or Wednesday I should have the results back from the lab on the DI water to see if this copper in it. Have a great Memorial Day . Phil

That shouldn't make a difference, I would thick any good rodi setup will take care of water no matter what kind of pipes or fittings you have. Hose bib fittings have the same metals that a lot of your standard plumbing fittings have and won't leach copper, hose bib valves are not made from copper.
