Sounds like a nice, inexpensive DIY solution. I would think that you might need to come up with some kind of solution to prevent the liner getting sucked up by your return pump.
We have a local guy that uses large plywood vats with pond liner as grow out systems. He said the only issue with them is that they will puncture if you were to drop something like a rock on the liner.
an LFS near me uses big plywood sumps, but i dont htink they use pondliner, they use some paint that holds the water in, dont ask me how it works because i have no idea - have wonder the same myself?!?!
Originally posted by szeth13 i used to work at this lfs and under all of the isles of tanks, they had one wooden sump covered with pond liner and it worked very well.
there was a local lfs that created a 4-6 inch deep coral tank like this. it worked really well.
For prevening the return from sucking up the liner i would take a pvc pipe and cut it to long enough to raise the pump so it cant suck up the liner then i would cut away must of the pipe except like 3 "legs" that way the pump is raised but still have plenty of water flow.
