Is that a snake on the rocks>?

good eye,i didnt see that.i assume you are talking about the second pic.there are plenty of snakes on sunny days in the spring then when it warms up in the summer you rarely see them.

Wow Dan, I really like the pond. I've been thinking about a pond lately, but know nothing about them. How hard would you say it is to setup and maintain a nice pond? I'm assuming it's cheaper and easier than a reef?

Its really quite easy if you go large and dont over stock it with fish.It kinda takes care of itself if you do a natural type pond with a good amount of plants to do the nutrient removal and a large waterfall to keep the water moving .

Nice pond! Were in the beginning process of building one. So far we have about a 7500-10000g hole in the ground! My brother builds them for a living, so when he has time, he'll be up to do the rest. He says make it bigger than you want, because you'll want a bigger one after you build it.

Do you folks know of any good pond sites out there like reef central? I'd love to start reading up on what it takes.

Hey Dan, your pond is awsome.. infact, we talked about it last year, and this year I took the plunge. Part of the reason i've been absent from RC, but been working hard to get the pond done.

We ripped out the 500gal preformed pond and had the hole dug out to a 9'x9' and 3' deep around 1500gal. Been a long road getting it together with all the rain we had. We're almost there. I hope to get fish this weekend once I get the back wall that has the spillway built more (requires me in the pond).

I have some looping vid of the progress... check it out.

thanks,i just got done cleaning the filter and replacing the bulb in the uv sterilizer so i am hoping the water will clear up a bit more.the koi are big now(25 inches or more) and they really stir up the sediment and tear up the plants reducing visibility.thats weird about the hummers,,its been a good year for hummingbirds in my back yard.there are 2 fighting for the feeder at once some of the time.

Dan, where do you get your Koi? Also, if you havn't already, you can check out microbe-lift pl for keeping the pond water clear.
