tell me what you think. Are they heathly or just stressed out.

My LFS they told me they are tank breed kellogg's.
I ask if He get one more and trying to get a zebar pair.
It took him 3 months to get these.

Be advised, H. kelloggi don't have the best track record in the home aquarium. You should quarantine and deworm them just as if they were wild caught. There is also speculation that they need cooler waters because they come from deeper waters. Not sure how accurate it is, but I think I'd stick to around 72 degrees for them personally.

Good luck with them, they are beautiful.

They look young. And their parents were likely not bred in a captive environment -- most likely they are wild caught or net pen raised, as it is expensive to actually rear seahorses.

No they Are tank breed I even talk to the ladie that he got them from. This was her second group of babies. She has a long waiting list for them like 6months to year. The only way got them so early two preorders had back out.Lucky me.

I am certain that most everyone here would be interested in hearing from this woman who was able to breed and raise her H. kelloggi -- would you be able to talk to this woman again and ask her to post photos of her mating pair and her fry rearing set up here on RC? I know I would be interested in whether or not kelloggi fry are benthic or pelagic. I would think that this person would do better to sell direct to hobbyists than through a LFS... Can't wait to hear more.

I'll try I even ask her about post on here. She said rc won't let her.

She don't sale just LFS. She is a friend of the owner of the LFS.

They already eating forzen brine shrimp. So I don't think they came from the ocean.

Keep us posted how they do. I'll be curious to hear if true captive bred H. kelloggi are easier to keep than the tank bred ones.

Zef -- how are your horses doing?

I wanted to follow up on getting more information from the woman who says she has had success with the kelloggi in captive breeding and raising fry. Unless RC banned this woman from posting (because she broke some rule), there should not be a problem w/ her posting more details about her horses and her set up. As long as she is not actively soliciting sales, I don't see how it would be a problem. And considering the fact that this species is not currently known to be captive bred & raised, her information would be an asset to the hobby.

Until you have more specific details on the parents of these horses and the way in which they were raised, I would caution that things may not truly be as you were lead to believe --- I hope that what you were told was the truth and that your horses are healthy and will be with you for a long time. But until there is some additional information offered, I would suggest that you watch them carefully for even the slightest hint that things may be going wrong.

Update
they are still alive and eating like horses.
Check the water and params are good. But no3 and po4 went up a lil.

The only thing is they have a greenish alge growing on there backs. But it's flacking off.
Is this good or bad. And I'm working on getting my no3 & po4 down I think this will help with that and the hair alge I'm starting to see.
Hopfuly I'll be able to take some pic tommorrow. They grown alote.

Thanks zef

One more thing my seahorses turn out to be 2 females. Can I get a male seahorse and put them togather. Would 2 pair up and one left alone. Or will all be come friends. A lil info would be great.

My seahorses in one of my tanks frequently get algae on them but it has never been a problem for me or for them.
If you get another seahorse, be sure to get one from the same breeder that you got the originals from as mixing species or seahorses from a different source have often led to problems.
You may want to leave it a bit because if they really are kelloggi and not kuda as sometimes is the case, they get quite large and it might be some time yet before any sign of a male is present.
Hair algae is a sign of a lack of husbandry or a sign of overfeeding that could have been taken care of with proper husbandry.
I'd suggest vacuuming out daily, any uneaten food as it is food for algae when left to decompose.

Bumping this up. Did you ever find a reason why she couldn't post on here. Also how are they doing & any luck finding a male?

Can you post some updated photos of these horses? I would, of course, welcome any more information about where these horses originated from. The more we know, the greater assistance we can be.

Not many people are going to be able to help you raise the fry of these horses -- if you have two healthy horses, I don't think I would chance screwing that up just for the possibility of breeding.
