Pooky's 300

Glad to see your tank coming back.

Thankd Robert :)

I agree completely!~ I'm in love with conspic, after seeing one in person at Aquatouch I've decided he's my next dream fish for the next dream tank, lol!~

Oh and your corals are really looking good too!~

Thanks Dave. There are many beautiful fish out there. The important thing is to get what YOU like, not what others think you will like.

Oh I've no need of anyone to tell me I like him. I fell in love with them when I saw them at my LFS. I just don't think my current tank would be quite large enough for such a fish as this.

I'm happy with my fish particularly my Gold Flake, he's doing very well and growing all the time!~ I've got many others I like too just wish I hadn't have lost my Labouti wrasse... :(

Then why did you go and stock your tank with MY fish list???? I think you need to send me a frag of the Forest Fire as your penance! :D

LOL........that's the best one I've heard in a LONG time.

When I get my hands on the Forest Fire and after it grows out, I'll be sure to give you the first frag. BTW, which one is that? Too many fires to deal with and put out. OTOH, if you are talking about the WILDFIRE, that should be a problem ;)

You know, some fish just fall into that "love at first sight" category. I've thought long and hard about tracking down a small GF for the tank but just haven't been able to find one small enough. Sorry to hear about your laboutei. Did it jump or was it a mysterious death?

:lolspin: Apparently 1 too many glasses of wine tonight:D

But heck, I'm smiling, things are pickin' up, the tank is going nicely, and between my wife and I, we're up to 5 jobs. Just keepin' it real!

Holy cow! Where do you find time for anything else, not to mention reefing???

Time? What's that?:worried:

No. No time. But who needs sleep anyhow? It'll only be this crazy for a little while and having something beautiful to look at when I get home it a bonus. Even better now that I can see it when I get home with the new LED's:D

You should check in with AquaTouch, they're local to me but are doing business via the web now. That's where I got mine... He was 3 inches when I got him and they've had others that size since. Ask for Micheal or Scott if you call and tell them I referred you. They're also sponsors here on RC now.

As far as the Laboutei I found him on the floor behind the tank. I have panels around the tank but not in the back. I may put up some egg crate like Brian's got in the back of his tank to prevent further escape artists from making anymore unwanted exits.

Of course, it helps that your wife is probably holdng down 4 of the 5 jobs so you can tinker with the tank :hammer:

Why type of LED's are you running now?

I'll be sure to check with them when I am ready for a new fish. I already have a very reliable local source here so I don't have to deal with shipping stresses but it never hurts to know :)

Yeah, with wrasses, you really can't afford to have any openings, no matter how small. They always seem to be able to find that little hole and shoot right through :mad2:

So how do you like the LED so far? As I mentioned in Mark's thread, I have been thinking about replacing the T5's with those LED's b/c I have no effective way of cooling the T5 bulbs and they burn out really fast when driven by IceCap ballasts. I basically have room for 2 strips 6" long flanking the halides. It would be cool to add some nice lights with decent intensity and allow me to run the halides a bit less to cut down on energy consumption.

I love them. I was very concerned before I got them, as I've always loved VHO's. Turned out to be a great option. In theory, as I've never tested them though others say they have, they put out twice the light of T5's at half the draw. I'm just using them to add a little "POP" to the halides and they're great.

So you think they are equivalent to VHO super actinics? And if they put out twice the light of T5's, they must be really bright

Nice. Looks like once I burn through my remaining T5 bulbs, I'll be headed down the LED path :lol2:

Here's a link to my build on the local forum where you can see the single 24" Reef bright installed. No pics of the light in action as I can't seem to get any of the pics to turn out, thanks to my general lack of photo skills...

I'd like to eventually have another for the front of the tank, but the budget won't stretch that far at the moment.

Cool. I like that table the canopy was resting on. Nice woodgrain :D

So does the LED need constant cooling to work well? I know your cooling fans are already there from previously. I thought I had read somewhere or heard from someone that they needed to be cooled. I have an opened top so there is no way to mount any kind of small cooling fans for that purpose. BTW, I am headed to bed so we'll continue the chat tomorrow :)

No, they don't "need" to be cooled, but I'd say you do need to pay attention to how close you mount them to other heat sources. I've got them fairly close to the halides, but made sure to leave a gap, and as you can see, it's sitting right in front of my fans:D

And, there's always a way. There may be other downsides to consider, like aesthetics, but it can always be done.
