Pool Owners: Fish VS Cover

Hey Long Island Pool Owners..

My wife and I are having a discussion about solar covers VS those solar fish.

I think the solar cover works better but is more of a pain to put on and take off.

My wife likes the fish for ease of use..

Which do you use? Or, do you know which works better?

TIA

Ralph

I've never used a solar cover, but I did try the fish once. I think it's BUNK. Don't all pool filters skim from the surface? Mine does. I expect that what ever oily crap is in that fish does little more than clog your filter (if you're using D/E, I don't know if it would pass through sand any easier).

I was wondering the same but I have to agree with Larry..
I picture those fish chemicals looking like a oil slick on a puddle:)
IMO stay with the solar cover...

both work. Refering to the oil of the fish, it really is (I recall) just isopropyl alchohol. I used it to quickly heat up my pool last year and did work. I would say to get a solar cover. Also buy the cheap one when advertised in Island Recreation (must bring in flyer). I opted for the best of the best and it kinda defeated the purpose. It was made to be thicker 15mil instead of 5mil and this i believe affected the transfer of heat to the pool. They also sell both there and on the internet a solar cover reel that attaches to the side of the pool and swivels out of the way and can also be removed, all by 1 person. I am getting that shortly.

I got sucked into the "solar heater" 2 years ago. As if that were not bad enough, I bought two of them.
Don't waste your money on this black plastic piece of garbage.

I keep 2 of those fish in my pool (18x36) and it maintains the temp at 82. For $20 I don't think I can go wrong. My pool would never get above 76-78 before. I'm sure the solar cover would do the same, but for ease of use you can't go wrong.

I can not argue with ease of use for those solar fish. Plus it is a hassle putting on, taking off and storing the solar cover when it is not on.

But, I may have convinced my wife to stay with the solar cover, so for now, no solar fish.

My pool was 83 yesterday and only went down to 81 last night.
