Today is the first day I noticed this on him, what should I do. He's not eating, I offered pellets soaked in garlic. The same pellets he was raised on and has been eating in my tank. He's been in my tank for 4 days and was happy and even enterng my RBTA withn 24 hrs. I know NOW how important quarantine is, but I can't go back. I can remove him to a large fishbowl though, if needed. Thanks for any help. :)

Please tell me this won't spread to my other fish. ;(

Hi redfood,

Well other fish wont catch popeye, popeye is a condition not a disease.

Check your water quality. More often then not something can be off in the water quality or he experienced some trauma.

Since he is new he very well could have experienced some sort of trauma.

A water change is a place to start.

Keep a close eye on it and look for secondary infections if one develops then a treatment with a gram negative antibotic would be something to get (like kanacyn or Maracyn-2)

You can try to entice him to eat by adding something like garlic to his normal food.

ps. I would not take him out as of yet (even if he evers needs to). Netting can further injur the eye since it is swollen.

Thanks, guess I'll just wait then. I'm just worried because he hasn't eaten all day even the pellets soaked in garlic, hasn't gone to his RBTA, and is now (well before lights went out) hanging out on the bottom. He's swimmng with the current but not loking well. Did a 20% today and will do aother 20%WC tomorrow.

BTW I don't use nets, don't even own one. :)

Hi there, I have the same problem with my Yellow Tang, I did several water changes and use Maracyn Plus. This product cures popeye and also prevents re-infection. Good Luck!!
