This is a possible dumb question, so please don't kill me. Do they need sand? I know they like to bury themselves, but the 40 is bb at the moment. I am planning on adding sand tonight and if the dust is low enough I'll move him, or I could move him now and add sand after.

I'd give the substrate several rinses in a bucket until it runs clean. If you do this and place it in the tank gently, you'll end up with little cloudiness in the DT.

These fish do feel much more comfy with substrate in which to bury themselves, and in this case especially, you want the fish to chill out and begin feeding.

I got substrate tonight and hopefully get it put in. If not to big a storm I may move him over otherwise tomorrow night after it calms down.

Finally. Rinse or no rinse, a storm happens. Finally ready tonight to move him over.

Moved into the new home tonight. Added a cup of established sand and two pieces of LR amounting to about 10 pounds or so. I will get more and switch it out one piece at a time with the DT and get more in there. Sorry adding the rock and moving a little sand around kicked it up again.

already buried in about a hour

I'm not sure if I want to try feeding tonight or just let him settle in for a day and try tomorrow night.

Let him settle for a bit and give it a shot tomorrow. Or since he's the only one in there now you could throw in some ghost shrimp and let him eat them when he's ready. They will survive in the saltwater for a good few hours, just be sure to keep an eye on it and if they die in there get them out right away. I wouldn't sit there and stare at him though, like I said my would get nervous and antsy when he knew I was around, so my best advice would be to just let him be

:spin1: He ate!!!! Two ghost shrimp in and I left. Come back a hour later and one ghost shrimp left. Shrimp is on the complete other side of the tank though. But atleast he ate something. Finally.

Ghost shrimp GONE! Seems to have helped moving him to his own tank. As said earlier that they are nocturnal feeders, I may have to wait to feed till the lights go down. There are only the moon lights and actinics running, no bright white light though.

Well so far so good. Five days in and still going in the new tank, eating for four. Atleast I believe he is. I can't find any shrimp carcasses laying around the tank.

Nice!!! Itll be smooth sailing from here on out. Give him some time in QT and get him used to prepared foods. He should easily go for frozen krill. I just got my second goblin today, barely 1 1/2" long!

I'm hoping it gets easier here on out. The lion weened fairly easily, this guy is taking a bit more patience.

Out of curiosity, these guys are bottom dwellers how much light can they stand or do they really need? I turned my lights on full for about a hour last night and it seemed way bright for him.

I run a 2 bulb T5ho and LED supplement on my scorp tank. The bulbs are a geisman super blue 14k and kz actinic. None of my fish seem to mind, the only reason i even have those lights is I keep coral in my tank.

As for lights I have a 4 bulb aquaticlife, but usually only run the actinics and led moonligts. If I throw a couple corals in there I may turn the 10k lights on for a little bit.

He ate silversides tonight!!!! Just figured I would try it for the heck of it. On a feeding stick, right in front of his face, then boom he took it. Almost surprised me as I really wasn't expecting it.

How often should I feed him now? Daily or every other day

Congrats on the breakthru!

We typically feed 3x a week (M-W-F). It's harder to tell with stingfish since they're always sitting on the substrate, but feed until the fish has a nice little "belly bulge".

Will do. I may try again tonight, but if doesn't take right away I'll just wait till Friday.

He was buried then jumped out and took it, then went swimming around a little. Maybe looking for more?

Ours actually come out on M-W-F and wait to be fed now. All of our Scorpaeniformes seem to "know" what day it is and get "antsy" every time they see one of us.

Fed again last night. He only wanted the one silverside and didn't care for any more.
