I am a breeder and am looking at what types of clowns are the most popular to breed, so far I breed your standard oxy's which sell good, gold stripe maroons, and not clowns but bangaii cardinals. I am working on theillei's but no luck with them yet and also I would like to find a pair of wild caught oxyx clowns to breed. so what are some other good types of clowns to breed.

Thanks for any help

A lot of people seem to be buying gladiators right now

thanks for the info, a lot of my stores that I sell to don't buy a lot of designer clowns but it is an option to sell them online. I have a setup that will allow me to breed 22 pairs when finished so I have plenty of room for diff breeds

Frankly, I think most any species could sell better than the TR garbage from the mass breeders if you cull out the deformed. Overbites, underbites, disproportionate bodies, flat faces, etc. leave ample room for some quality TR. Sad part is that it's hard to find a TR that doesn't have one or more of these problems. Reminds me of the puppy mills in late 80s and 90s.

Different forms of Black and Whites seem to be very popular right now(regular b & w, snowflake, midnights, etc.)

I deff cull a lot, if they don't have the perfect body shape I will not sell them. miss bars I will still sell though as long as the shape is good. I cant stand fish that should have been culled but people sell them just for the extra cash, I am more about quality than making money, I do it for the fun of watching them grow from babies.

darwins are a clown I am also thinking of breeding if I can find a good pair to start with.

I used to have mocha's but they don't sell very well around here very well

yjanks for all the sugestions, keep them c0mming.

Latezonatus without misbaring or deformities.
Others would be latifasciatus, fuscaudatus, chrysogaster,...
All the captive bred latifasciatus (Sea and Reef bred those I think) looked so horrible that they should have gone straight into a grouper tank.
Maybe the market for those is not huge, but people interested in these look for quality and are willing to pay for it.

Otherwise stick with ocellaris - it's still the bestselling saltwater fish.

As for designer clownfish - too many people are doing those right now and too few of the buyers actually care about quality or deformities.

If you want to stand out do something that is rare and difficult.

I am actually working on thillie and white bonnet clowns, i know they wont sell fast but they are some of my favs,

Latz and chyrsogasters are another pair i would love if i can find a good pair to start with.

Thanks for the info

it depends on what market segments you're trying to cater to.
Latz, Theillie, Leucokranos are cool but more of a purist-collector segment. It's a small market.
Helmet-Picassos + Nebulas with nice markings and good form can demand Lots of $$$
Main stream popular clowns are Wyoming whites, premium picassos, black snowflakes and frostbites.
