Porcelain Anemone Crab

Quick question, I recently added a porcelain crab to my tank and he instantly took up residents in my rose tip nem. The nem seems to be contracted. was this a bad move or will the nem eventually be happy again?

I don't think so. I've seen pictures with both in. I'm waiting until I have a few more anemones before trying one just in case.

I have one in my maxi-mini setup, but so far he's chosen to take up residence in a clump of macroalgae, in spite of having 10 small anemones to choose from. I have seen porcelain crabs residing in anemones at a LFS, and the anemones were not doing well. They unfortunately don't take good care of their non-display anemones, so the anemones may have been fading already.

Karen of Karen's Rose Anemones isn't in favor of keeping them with bubbletips. She also says that they'll keep clownfish out of the anemone.

The pink variety live in anemone. There is a green variety in the Gulf of Mexico and Corpus Christi Bay that look idential to the nake eye other than color. This variety does not associate with any anemone that I know off.

I've had a porcelain crab now for 3 years that lived with my maroon clowns and green carpet anemone. Very fun to watch. I think your RBTA will be fine.

Porcelain Anemone Crab

Revival of an old post.... Has anyone else have successfully kept a porcelain crab along with a pair of clownfish in their anemone without drama or conflict?

I 'd be curious to know since they do it in nature doesn't mean they'll co-exist in a glass box...

Same question with sexy shrimp for you BTA owners!?

Thanks

The clowns always killed mine.

I have them with my percula pairs and it works best with carpet anemones, the larger the better. I would not try it with BTAs.
My first and smallest percula pair is now getting along for months quite well with a crab in their gigantea.
The thing I have for now given up on is keeping the crabs in pairs as well. It works for a while, but sooner or later one of the crabs disappears, even if there are no clownfish with them. I feel for a pair you need at a minimum a 2ft carpet anemone, or one will ultimately kill the other, even if they are a pair.

I have a porcelain crab with a pair of snowflake clowns for the past 3 years. At first they all shared the same BTA anemone, but now that nem has split in two, and I also added another BTA about a year ago, which also split. So I have 4 BTAs now and the clowns prefer to stay in one, while the crab stays in the other. But the clowns often visit.
I also tried twice to add a second porcelain crab over the past 2 years, but always seem to end up with only 1 remaining.
I also have an anemone shrimp for almost 2 years. No one allows him to go next to the nem, he tries all the time, but the clowns and the crab chases him away. These days he hangs out in an anthelia colony. At night he sneeks closer to the nem and is often seen on the foot area of the nem.

I made in general the same experience with the shrimp, though without fish it can work:

One of my 10 gallon QTs. The anemone and shrimp moved by now to my DT system, into the 40B.

Thanks for your replies.
So basically what I'm understanding is generally the fish will tolerate tHe crab but no more... ( unless maybe they are juvenile clownfish )
Has anyone tried with clownfish that are a few months old?

Also periclemenes and / or Thor sp. should have their own nem , I' m guessing in a large enough DT So that the clowns don't claim ownership of it or by themselves in another separate tank .

@ ThRoewer. That' s a brevicarpalis in your video? Have you had other periclemenes?

Also tHe neopetrolisthes was maculatus / or oshimai ? Or have you experimented with others?

Thank you

I tried multiple anemone crabs in my DT with multiple anemones. I added 6 total to the DT which have 4 Gigantea, 2 Haddoni and 2 Magnifica. Over the months, I only have 1 crab at this time. I do have Marine Betta and Harlequin Tusk. I do not know if the fish are responsible for the death, or other crabs. I do have Skunk Cleaner shrimp pair. They are doing fine and spawn all the time, so I don't think the fish is responsible for the death of the anemone crab.
