possible worm / eunicida id & questions

Hi all,

I bought some stuff recently, that has been sitting in a 10 gal QT tank.....once in a while we do it right!

Anyway, there is one long black worm about 4 inches long on a small rock. it finally climbed out so I could get to it so I could try to ID...body looks soft with bristles--all black--no white. at the end of one end are the five antenna sticking out which is why I think it could be a eunicida. but as I said--body looks very soft.

I see only one...for now.....

not sure what it eats yet--didn't like cyclopeze or hikari algae discs.

my camera is not takling a good pic, otherwise I would post it.

what do you guys think? is this considered benefical worm?

any comments?

thanks...

ok--so this worm was in a small rock......if it is a eunicida or eunicidae worm, there are many different opinions. Some say that they are scavengers, others, omnivores, and others say that they can snatch a fish when large enough.

to keep him...to flush him...to give him away......that is the question

A quick google search on Eunicida turns up some rather ugly pics, none of the ones I saw were of black worms though.
I have no experience with black worms in my tank, and I usually don't recommend killing unknown stuff, but if it were mine, I'd probably isolate it until I could find some definitive info on it.

yes--I read some stuff on wetwebmedia and other assorted places....some can get pretty big and predatorial. others are supposedly quite tasty--may have to let it grow.....

the thing looks like a bristle worm but has those 5 things poking out of one end.

I hate to flush something till I know for sure also.....does anyone want it?
