potassium supplementation?

what can i use to supplement and/or raise my potassium?

potassium chloride?

from here?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potassium_chloride

Potassium chloride makes up 70% of Ace Hardware's allegedly pet and vegetarian friendly "Ice Melt" though inferior in melting quality to calcium chloride

any readily available, over the counter and easy to dose additives?

I would buy a potassium supplement for reef tanks and a K test kit. Have read of a couple issues from people dosing "over-the-counter" KCl.

I would be careful with dosing potassium, too. A commercial supplement might be the best approach. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how good the hobbyist test kits are.

I would be concerned using something like that in my tank, because although they can say it is pet friendly, there may not actually be regulations on impurities, and there could be plenty of things that might be inapropriate for a reef - phosphates, nitrates, etc. Those things wouldn't really harm a pet and most plants would love em, but it could cause some unsightly blooms in a tank. And there could be worse things than that which might not be beneficial to delicate reef inverts.

What is the purpose for adding pottasium? I'm sure that would work, but seriously, Why? I've never heard of that.

Potassium is important in some of biochemical reactions, and at least in land animals it is a major constituent in the nervous system. I can't speak as to what fish or coral would do with it, but likely the same sorts of things we do.

I use Warner Marine Potassium and dose randomly whenever i feel like it.

Here is the item description:

ReefPure Balanced Ion Potassium Supplement provides essential Potassium for the growth and coloration of hard corals including SPS corals. ReefPure Balanced Ion Potassium Supplement is a unique product that contains a proprietary blend of Potassium salts formulated to have a minimal effect on the ionic balance of the aquarium. ReefPure Balanced Ion Potassium Supplement is extremely concentrated containing nearly 60,000 ppm of Potassium.

contains no Phosphates, Silicates, preservatives, chelating agents and dyes. Potassium levels become depleted naturally and supplementation is necessary to correct the imbalance. In addition, many salt mixes are deficient in Potassium. Contains: 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis/Deionized Water and Blended Potassium Salts.

I use Warner Marine as well. My potassium was low according to AWT results last week. Here is what AWT says about Potassium..

Potassium is rapidly
depleted from aquarium water by several plant and animal metabolic processes.
Maintenance of appropriate levels is critical for cellular respiration, as well as being an
important nutrient for coral zooxanthellae and macro algae.
