Potential problem with Iwaki pump?

I have an Iwaki 100 pump on my system and it has been running for about 4 months. Today I notice whit marks on the body of the pump. At first I thought light reflection, but I rubbed it and it is powdery, but not dusty - can't easily blow it off. Any idea what would cause this?

About to lose the pump? I would hate to have that happen.



It is smeared where I rubbed it.

I think it is just dust that get baked onto the pump body. Mine used to do the same - for all 20+ years of its life :lol:

It appears to be blowing out of the cooling vent holes and appeared virtually overnight.

Potential problem with Iwaki pump?

Could be powder lubricant. Listen for an increase in noise. Email the company they are very good and will let you know

I have emailed Iwaki America and sent the picture. hope to hear from them tomorrow.

My first thought was that you had some water leak onto the pump.. Are you sure you weren't doing drywall work in your home or something. I'd be skeptical that what you see came from the pump. The fan will suck dust in from the surrounding area and could blow it onto the pump body though the space around the fan shroud. If you have your pump in a dusty environment, than seeing that wouldn't surprise me. I've owned dozens of Iwaki's over the years and never seen anything like that. There is also nothing in or on the pump that would cause that kind of a coating on the body. As such, to me this looks like environmental as opposed to pump related.

I have no idea where, from an environmental stand point, it would have come from. Dry wall was done in another room, adjacent, about 8 months ago, three months before I got the pump. The pump is in a closed room that is used only for storage and the sump operation. The pattern on the pump suggests to me that it is being blown out of the pump, but, of course, that does not preclude something being sucked in and then being blown out. I just don't know what it could be. I think I will wipe some of it off and see if it reappears.

Mine did that but you could tell it was from the fan blowing it back onto the motor.
Wipe it down with a damp cloth every so often.
