Was wondering if any owns or use to have a potters angel? Any pictures? Any info on them would be great. Thanks!

I have a few, what info do you want? I keep 3 in my fish only tank, and another in a fish/shrimp tank, the last one is in my reef.
Water parameters are all "normal" ie no ammonie, nitrite. pH 8-8.2 etc. I use natural sea water so no dosing. I feed a mix of frozen and pellet foods, the fish tend to pick out the mysis first but they eat the dried foods well. I use LR in all my tanks and light them well so there is a lot of macro algea and other thing to graze on.

My oldest was collected off oahu Nov of 2006. It is a large fully colored up male. at the end of Sept. I collected 4 more -2 from the south east coast of oahu and the other 2 from North shore. I put the females with my male and after a few days of picking on each other they have established a pecking order and are getting along well as of right now. The other males went into their own tanks, the first with a hawaiian flame angel which he proceeded to beat up so I switched him with the smaller male and they are ok. The meanest of them is in a reef with a fishers (collected on the sept trip also) and a trio of cherubs. He took some time, but he rarely bothers any one any more.

Hope that helps, I have some pictures of my oldest one but my digital camara is in the repair shop so no photos of the new ones.
If you still want photos, let me know and I'll post some of the older male.

Here he is, this is the one in my fish tank, he now has 2 females with him. The one in my reef is doing great as well, but I don't keep sps. I actually don't keep any stony coral because I collect all of my own animals and stony corals are illegal to collect. I have the other one with some deep water octos and shrimp and stars and things like that.

Here is the oldest male, when my camara is back from the shop I'll post photos of the others if people want to see them. Sorry for the fuzziness of the photo, I'm not that good at photography.

yoboyjdizz, do you go to the MARS meetings? My parents live near sac and I am a member, when I'm in town I go to the meetings, I'll be there this month.

Hello Philter4,

I am curious. How do you collect Potter's angels in Oahu but keep your tanks in Florida? At least I think you are in Florida because that is what your description reads under your name. Anyway, that is really neat. I am in Florida and would love to be able to someday do the same (collect the animals I keep, myself).

I ship the fish, the same way a store or a wholesaler would do. bag the fish O2 and styro box. The animals make it with very few losses last trip spent 3 weeks collecting only lost 2 animals that I collected. Hobbyist lisence allows 5 animals per day so in 21 days, dove 18 which is 90 animals. I didn't collect even 1/2 that many, but picked 20 or so from the entire trip to bring back.

While I'm there I have family and my uncle keeps and collects fish as well. The ones that don't go in his tanks what I do is put a HOT magnum on a 12 gal plastic container that I pick up at wallmart. This is like having a small aquarium that you could set up in a hotel room if you were on vacation.

I do live in FL and collect many animals there, you could snorkel if you are not scuba certified, but scuba allows deeper and easier options. Fl lisence allows 20 animals per day and you still have to follow size limits but I have as much fun collecting my own as keeping the tanks.
