Powder Blue in Time Out

I have a newly acquired Blue Tang that I have introduced to my 625G DT. My tank currently is home to 3 small purple tangs 5 slightly larger yellow tangs, 1 large sail fin, 1 very large Vlamingi, a medium powder blue tang and a host of other fish but no other Tangs. The Blue Tang is 4" and is about the size of the powder blue. All the other Tangs have ignored the newcomer with the exception of powder blue. He has been terrorizing the new comer. This has gotten slightly better, but because I was very worried I trapped powder blue and he is now in my refugium. How long do you think I should keep him there before I reintroduce him back into the tank. I would like to make sure the Blue Tang is eating well and doing well prior to sending powder blue back in. Do you think a few days or longer?

I have to this with my PBT with most newcommers...make sure the new Blue is eating well and acclimated before re-introducing the BPT...usually about a week. just make sure it's temp home is large enough with plenty of hiding spots etcc... to reduce stress ..my BPT is over 15 yo so I do it often...LOL

That's a tough one to predict. You certainly have a lot of room with 625 gallons of space but the PBT appears to dislike the color blue so I don't think he will act differently unless if your DT becomes a foreign space for him once again. 2 weeks maybe, or you may need to consider which one you favor and let go/ rehome the other one.

I've had success with 2 week tang time outs, just make sure your fuge is big enough for the PBT in the meantime.

My PBT will pound any tang that won't fight back. No matter how long I put her in timeout. I had a Blonde Naso that was much larger than her, and she would relentlessly attack him because he was such a gentle giant. However, I added a small Chevron Tang a month or so ago, and this guy doesn't take any of her crap. Big surprise... she's been leaving him alone. ;)

Hey thanks for all the replies. My PBT is not extremely happy in the refugium, but he is eating well and seems no worse for wear. I will probably give him at the very least 1 week and likely 2. The refugium is almost 50 G. 24x24 x20. If he starts looking like he's stressed I will return him. I know he prefers being in the DT, but hopefully he will become a better citizen after a little alone time. We will see.

2 weeks shouldn't be a big deal. I had to treat mine with Formalin and keep him out of the DT and away from all the other fish. Just don't put another fish with him in a confined space. Learned that the hard way.
