i get power outages and my sump and pump siphon gets un balenced what can i buy that will let the pump last for the 30 seconds the power goes out?
affordable too.

I have everything plugged into the APC battery back ups like you use for computers. Depending on how big of backup that you buy will depend on how long it will run.

Also depending on what you want to keep running, you may need to buy a couple backups.

I have 3 on the larger tanks, and 1 for the BioCube.

I second this---I have two of them

would this be ok to run my mag 9.5?

It says that it will run for 22 minuets, but that will depend on the power consumption of the mag nine.

I would suggest spending the money and get a bigger unit. One reason that I say this is because once you do this & see how it works, your going to want more things running on the backup.

Also, I only use the Surge/battery backup outlets on the unit for the items that I need to keep running. The lights are on the Surge only outlets.

That one looks good.

1 suggestion, there should be a plug on the side where you can hook it up to your computer & download some software. If you have a computer close, I highly recomend doing this. The APC backups that I use have them.

Everytime that there is a Power Surge / Power Outage / Spike....anything, the backup unit will send the information to your computer & tell you. This is good when your not home, you can check the computer when you get home & see if anything happend. It also keeps taps on the condition of the battery life & sends you allerts.

what do you mean by unbalanced
that my power goes out for 30 seconds, the sump fills up because of the siphon the the return pump kicks on when power comes back and then i have to close the valve to balence out the sump and my water line in the aquarium.

if that happens doesnt that mean the return pump is to strong or return line is to small. It should go back to where it was before the power went out without adjusting the valve

Not to deter you but there is no way that backup unit will run a Mag pump for 8 hours. More like 10-20 minutes, IMO.

Don't want you to be shocked with the limited run time you'll actually get.

In the case of a prolonged power outage your immediate concerns should be circulation of the tank and oxygen exchange

a small battery backup will run a power head such as a koralia for eight hours or so.

a large one will run two of them for 8 hours given you plenty of circulation.

For air exchange I use the battery air pumps that come on when there is a power exchange---they are only 15 bucks and will run for about 10 hours.
These I place mid to high up in the tank. When the filtration is cut the ammonia and organics from the fish are heavier then water and sink to the bottom areas of the tank. You want to leave that area alone in a power failure.

circulation is very important for sumps and refugiums also in that salt water can stagnate very quickly. I have two refugiums and a sump so I have added a battery back air pump to each area.
