Power Outage - Got Generator? Pump? Water?

Was able to give the tank full power for about 3 hours before shutting the generator down for the night. All corals opened up and looked good. Only regret is that I still could not find Chuckie this morning. :sad1:

After shutting down the generator I ran my Maxijet 1200 circulation pump on a 200W inverter I bought at Northern Tools for $25 yesterday. I hooked the inverter up to my car battery rather than trying to buy a new battery and charger. This worked well through the night and I could even crank the car this morning -- I suppose 20W of drainage wasn't enough to drop the battery down too low.

My tank is on battery air pump at the moment but will have full power when the wife wakes up and fires up the generator so she can blow-dry her hair. :D

This might work if I only have to do it for a few more days. Hoping today is the last day, though.

Scott

If you want more water, LMK. I will be making more in the next few days for me. So, I can make a few more gallons for you. I actually have a few more gallons in the 100g tank that you can have if you need some sooner than later.

The more favors that you can owe me the better. Ha! HA!!!

I hope everyone is getting their power back without bad consequences! My parents house, where my temp 10 gal is set up had power out for about 12 hours, luckily no damage done. However, we just got power back at my in laws, so nearly 48 hours. The heat is really bad, makes things so much more difficult! Good luck guys!

Two KUB guys have pulled the fuse and finished walking around staring at the overhead power lines. They found a point of interest up the street, but then left. Not sure if they are going to put back in the fuse 1-1/2 blocks up the street or if they are going to hide from the lightning storm that is approaching. So close. It's killing me...

Power has returned after about 49 hours off-line. :)

They cut free a the problem house up the block and put the rest of us back in service. Things seem to be fine in the tank -- only Chuckie is AWOL.

P.S. And I got my adoption referral today, so today is turning out to be a pretty good day. :D

What adoption referral? Like as in adopting a child?

I'm glad you are having good luck BUT...my power went out a little but ago. Looks like that monkey climbed off your back and onto mine. Boo.

I ust checked KUB and apparently we're the current second biggest outage. I'm hoping like mad that that means we're gonna get attention soon! I turned on the RO system outside to make water though. May as well have water for water changing!

That was a major lightning storm last night. Had the kids and wife huddled in our downstairs bathroom from 1am to about 1:45. If you need my inverter to keep a small pump going off your car battery and my battery air pump, give me a call. Yours as long as you need them.

It just came back on! It has been off and on this morning twice though.

I guess it does help bring part of a large outage afterall!

Thanks for the offer. I really appreciate it.

We lost it for about 3 hours. I was considering loaning my gene to Scott but had suspected our would go with the pending storms. Glad I held on to it.

Heh. No problem. The $25 inverter I bought was perfect. I have to make a trip back up to Clinton soon, though, to return my loaner generator. I plan to buy a small one like that as soon as I can afford it.

What adoption referral? Like as in adopting a child?
Yes. A baby girl. For an old man like me. :D

Just got the pics and the file on her yesterday. Going to be busy today.

That's amazing Scott. Congratulations!!! I would actually love to adopt but it's not really financially feasible at this point. I've done some research and the fees seem to just be terribly prohibitive. It's hard because I have been really thinking about it a LOT over the last few years. I'm really glad that you guys have taken this step. Adoptive parents are amazing people, in my eyes.

Thanks, Mel. The fees are pretty steep. It is why I have two old cars, a large home equity loan, and could not afford to set up that 55G tank/sump/T5HO I won at last year's frag swap. I make a good salary but am a bit stretched and feel hit hard every time a car repair bill happens.

But it is so totally worth it all. I get all mushy when I think about her. :D

I'm really happy for you! Now those two boys have a younger sister to take care of!

How old is she?

She's just 2 months old. She'll be about 6 months old by the times things are finalized, though. Our younger son is looking forward to having a little sister. The older one is fine with it so long as we keep her away from his Legos. :)

Yes. A baby girl. For an old man like me. :D

How wonderful for you and your family!! Love has no age limits!!

We need to have a club baby shower.

Heh. That would be fine with me. With a 10-year gap between children, we are missing a few items. :)

As for my tank, corals still look good, but my pistol shrimp just died. And I found the chalk basslet's body and removed it. Also, the clam doesn't look happy. I am sure there are a lot of nitrates in the tank. Just did a water change and added carbon. Will likely change 5G a day for a few days to try and keep the watchman goby and more sensitive stuff alive.
