powerhead noob question!!

OK this maybe really noobish of a question. I have three power heads in my 120 gallon reef 72 long non drilled with 1300 gph overflow I have one pH place in top front corner of each side one is a hydor koralia evolution 1050 gph and the other two are same brand just 750gph. but looking at the fosters and smith magazine I see their only rated for 45 to 75 gph for the 1050 and 30 to 50 for the 750... if this is accurate I'm only turning 105 gph out of my powerheads correct? in saying these power heads are far to small to produce the currant needed for good sps, acans and a few montis growth. flow looks decent but not really what I see in others. my return is a triton 5. can anyone give me some advice or size brand for some better power heads thanks fellow reefers

must also say the 1050 is rated 1150gph but in saltwater only 45-75 gallon tank

For a tank that size I'd use two MP40s or WP40s, and dial them back to the flow you want. Especially for SPS, you're going to want 35x-50x tank size in flow.

that's what I was thanking I was told 20Ã"” but 50 sounds my like what I've read on hear before on other posts thank you

Nah go with the wp40 it's way cheaper and the flow is unreal. Youtube it. Also check out the thread here if you didn't already.

I have a WP40 and a WP25 in my 100 gallon 60in long tank.. My WP40 is on a regulator at 12v.. It's super powerful.. The WP25 is on the lowest power setting and pushes water like crazy.. I run both on else mode(reef mode). Hope this helps..

I purchased the Ecotech Marine Mp40 and battery backup three weeks ago for my 90 gallon reef and the pump and controller are amazing. Once Ecotech's Reeflink comes to market, no other company can develop the same engineering or quality as Ecotech Marine.

Sure, I spent a load of my hard earned money on the Ecotech equipment, but I'm a firm believer, you get what you pay for, plus I believe in keeping my money in American, if possible.

Thanks,
Randy

Did they break patent law? If not it isn't thievery.

Yes, they broke the Patent Law.

The problem is is they are in China so there is nothing you can do about it since China cares nothing for Laws.

If they tried that over here they would be out of business and sitting in jail right now.

Too bad there are not more Honest Americans like you.

It's harder to find American made products in the good old U.S.A., but I trying my best to support our smaller home grown American companies.

I'm sure there are many Americans that feel the same way.

Just look back a few years ago with the tainted cat and dog food that was manufactured in China and then sold in American. Over 10,000 of our pets died from kidney and liver failure....Totally disgusting and the list is growing everyday.

That's enough ranting for now and have a good evening,
Randy

please don't continue this on every thread the wp is mentioned.

i'll tell you what though, sence you seem to be so rich and can afford all the high quality none chinesse items, can you buy my a couple tunzes so I can say i don't have to run a wp pump? sorry but not everyone in this hobby can afford 400.00 pumps and you don't need to be rich to be in this hobby either.

and as far as I know you can't patent a shape so jebao did not break any patents, sorry to burst your bubble.

Since you know me from other threads you should know that I an not Rich.

LOL.

I have said it multiple times.

I do not make much more than Minimum Wage actually.

I do not own any EcoTech's.

I use Koralia.

I am saving up for an MP-10 Right now and it may take me a year or two before I get it so people please stop saying I am Rich.

Money has nothing to do with this.

It is Ethics and Morals and the Fact that these Cheap Chinese Things hurt our Hobby.

Companies like EcoTech advance the Hobby with innovative Technology.

Companies like Jeboa just copy it like little thieves.

They will never ever contribute to the Reefing Hobby.

That is what my posts and others like James's Posts are about.

It is not us saying HaHa we are better than you are because we are Rich and have Vortechs.

I am Poor as Poor can be but I value Eco-Tech.

I do not care how Poor I am or how Cheap Jeboa is.

I will never step down to that level.

People need to open their eyes.

I applaud your efforts to support American-made products; however, I do not feel these forums are a place to express such things. It is ironic that you use Koralia pumps, made by Hydor, an "international" company run by an Italian that holds European patents for its products.

Unfortunately in this day and age, there is very little that is truly "Made in the USA". At some point, a part or piece of equipment was likely manufactured or assembled in a foreign country. Welcome to globalization.

While I do agree with you, China has not exactly been a model nation, posting things like this on a reef forum serves no purpose.

To the OP, the kind members here have provided a nice list of pumps and their opinions of each - select which ones makes the most sense to you both economically and morally. As for me, I made the mistake of buying a WP for my freshwater 75gallon....lmao...waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overkill!

I like buying American Made yes.

But I am not Anti Other Countries either.

I have no problem with Koralia as they designed their own product.

I have a problem, as do many others, with Jeboa since they copied the Tunze design to a tee and then called it the WP-40.

Where is the originality there.

They couldn't even come up with a unique name for their copied Power Head.

Then people buy them up because they are dirt cheap.

This hurts the honest companies that are innovative and create new equipment that further the hobby and make things easier and more effective.

You see the companies like EcoTech will not continue to innovate when they know some company in China will just copy everything and sell it cheaper.

They will stop making new products and we will be stuck in the stone age.

That would not happen here in America but in China it does and they do nothing about it.

It makes me sick.

I am just educating people here.

These are Forums and they are open to opinions.

I am not talking about cars and toys here but stuff related to reefing so I do not see how this serves no purpose here since it is very very very relevant to the advancement of Reefing.

P.S. This company , Jeboa, is cheating two Sponsors on Reef Central out of money, Tunze and EcoTech, making this topic even more relevant.
