Does anyone have any cheap timers and/or powerheads that they would like to get off of their hands? Send me a price and what model please. Thanks.

for $20 you can get a easy digital timer at lowes. they are in the end of the first isle as you walk into the mboro store by the lights right across the water coolers.

Drs fasiter smith is haveing a sales at 9 bucks right now, or the 4 plug timed/4 plug constant dial powerstrip timer for a little over 15 bucks.

Do you have the link to the Drs Foster Smith site where they ahve those on sale? I did not see them.

I would watch out for any manual dial type if you want to come by I will give you one I have them laying around all over and the ones like dr FS sell I have a few of those but they are not very reliable in my experence.

What do you prefer for a multiple outlet timer? I like the digital coralife timers (I believe that is what they are) They are around $50. I was trying to get one a little cheaper that did the same hting. Any suggestions?

I just use the cheap one from WalMart, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. Just make sure to get the 3 prong grounded ones. I've been timing lights on 6 of them for about 9 years with no problems.

I have had great luck with the dial timers like harry mentioned but BOTH my coralife ones mentioned went bad on the timmer side which is funny since they are a simple dial timmer also....the timmer side just stopped working, naturally in the on function so now I have 2 very pricy power strips.
The dial ones from a hardware store run off a pin flipping a switch on and off to power the plug and its pretty hard to mess that up. Wonder why yours failed so ofen Wayne? I have had the super duper cheap 2 prong that I put an adapter on mess up but the ones with three prongs (appliance timmers about $10 each) all seem to hold up and do fine for me. Also you need to figure in the $10 added shipping charge from a online order. If all you were getting was a dial timmer you would be better off going to a local store.

Also, look for ones with little peggs kinda thing attatched that you pull all up for on and push all down for off you want to function. In other words, the little pegs that flip the switch are permentally attatched. They have some with little pegs that are not built on to the timer you put on the hours you want but I have 2 laying around because I have somehow lost all those tiny pegs! I pulled them out one day in the tank stand only to never be found again they are so tiny.

The digital are 9 bucks too, and mine have been running jsut fine for over a year. Warranty them. I ahv ehad countless Home depot POS timers fail. They all made in china anyway with a differnt label.

I will say this. Reefkeepers have a tendancy to overload their systems. A 15amp circuit does not mena you cna load up to 15 amps. Anything over 10-111 and you generate heat in the wire, especially for newer home where builders now use 14 gauge wires. Older hamoes typically run 12/3 and can handle 20 amps. So..if your loading up your pumps, heaters, and lights on the same circuit, and then add a 10 dollar timer..it can cause it to fail just from internal heat. Dirty power does cause failures.

And then there is still they are all cheap timers and POS :-)

If you get the Intermatic Heavy Duty appliance timer from Homedepot, they're very reliable, I did my research before purchasing this timer. I would only run my halides on this timer, nothing else. I've been using it for over 5 years without issues. These run around $10/ea.

Thanks for the input everyone. I was just unsure of running multiple timers off of the same outlet. I am running 3 light cords, 4 powerheads (2 at the moment buying 2 more next week), Heater, Filter and air pump for skimmer. I need to do the math and figure out how many amps I am drawing already. I will give that a go and buy a few timers this weekend.

Does anyone know if you can run Koralia and Seio powerheads on timers for extended periods of time? (example run the koralias in the day then switch to the seio's at night. Not exactly what I am doing but an example). I think I heard that Seio's can not be run like that but I was checking.

first of all you do not want to run all on the same line if possiable.

You can run powerheads on timers you just don't want them starting and stopping a lot like wave maker.

The origanal Koralia's are not supposed to run on timers, they will clack when they start and burn out faster. The new ones have their own controller but way expensive IMO Tunze is much better.
