PPE & Lights

One of my friends keeps his under 4 VHO's and they look fine... I'd just keep them closer to the surface...

under my 8 bulb T5s I had them all the way down and they lost color, I've started to bring them higher and have started to color up again....

If you ahve Metal halide it depends on the wattage and depth of the tank. For instance, under 250 watt bulbs, I'd keep them around 20" below the bulb. VHO/T-5 maybe 15" to 10".
They do not like too much light, but too little and they'll fade.

Oh yeah, if you feed your PPE's regularly, they will grow like wildfire. Adding 5 or more polyps every month or so. Which is fast for PPE's.

If you can spot feed them with a pipette, try using frozen enriched brine shrimp. They pull them into their mouths easier because they are really soft then most foods and mine used to devour so many that they got bloated.

Plus, using the pipette will help make sure you don't waste too much and pollute your tank.;)

Under T5's

Tank: 36X18X24(tall)
Lights: ATi Blue Plus, ATi aquablue, URI actinc, ATi aquablue, Aquascience 15k. All T5's.
PPE's are at the bottom of the tank.

neyugn0w01, my PPE's lost color in the bottom.. I had to put them 1/2 up in the tank .. rocks only go 1/2 high... and now starting to turn dark purple.. all 4 tiny colonies.

I have experienced the complete opposite as delsol. Mine lose color if I move them closer to my PCs. They have there best color when shaded. And as far as I'm told, they are true Blane Perune PPEs. Unfortunatly I had to sell them all cause work was slow and I needed new RO/DI filters and PC bulbs.

Talking to a few people that have PPE, the True Blane PPE will hold its color best under low light. I have another PPE, that is in the same location as the Blane's and they are faded. It is also true that feeding them will make them grow much faster. I started with 2 polyps and now have a small colony.

I use a canon sd800is using macro mode. Nothing special.

I got 3 True PPEs from Steve Tyree himself.. I doubt he would sell fake ones...

plus I got another small colony that has colored up better in mid tank level lighting as well.

Not sure what to tell you. If they are doing great and looking great at mid level or higher, I would just go with that. All that matters is how they look.
