PPE - Please Post Everyone, ...get it...PPE. I bet you though this was something else.


No need to be shy. I see a lot of lookers and very few posters. Trust me, we'd love to hear about your tank, your polyps etc. No need to feel any pressure if you don't have pictures, paint a picture with your words and share as often as you like.



I received an email from a reefer here who said it was ok to mention this as long as I didn't mention her name. She's fairly new and seldom if ever makes a post or replies in this forum. She expressed to me that she doesn't feel comfortable posting because she doesn't know as much as others, and often she doesn't know how to ask a question in a way that is concise and specific enough. I informed her that there is absolutely no reason to be afraid. Don't worry about how it sounds, just start by stating the issue in detail, followed by a bit of background on your tank. I shared with her the importance of providing as much information including parameters as possible when asking for help with a tank/polyp issue. Those who are willing to help will assist you along the way. This reefer has even PM'd me a question instead of asking it in public because of this fear. I told her to feel free to post in this forum and we would not tolerate anyone belittling her because she is a newbie and doesn't know how to ask her question the way some of the others do. Even if you don't have any pressing issues, there's an Introduction Thread where you can do just that. Someone might even go way out of their way to do even more for you from reading your sincere introduction in the thread/link provide below.

Maybe some of you can leave a quick reply for her and anyone else who might feel as she does. I belive people who care for corals are caring people themselves, so please, never hesitate to ask, suggest or post any questions, concerns or issues you may have. Can I get a little back up on this one people?

Besides the fact that how much someone knows is generally inversely proportional to how much they TELL you that they know. One might also say: "Always question the intelligence of someone telling you how stupid you are."

Anyway, as Mucho says, all should feel free to post in any of the forums. Anyone that criticizes you for trying to learn is going to get whupped on for doing it by the regulars on any of the forums.

This isn't to say that there are no stupid questions. I'm an IT guy, I hear stupid questions all day. But this is a community of people with common interests. Good intentions will get you a long way here.

Ill admit that i lurk here and dont post. I usually dont like to post things like nice pic (althought i did last night a couple times.) BUT i will try to find more constructive thoughts.

Hey I felt the same way as the woman you described, actually still do sometimes especially when I see how many posts some of you guys have. Can be quite intimidating, but hey don't shy away or you'll never grow as fast in this hobby unless you get your questions answered through the forums, so be bold & post even if you do sound like a newbie, hey I think most people here still feel that way, well atleast I know I do.
 
I joined Feb. 2003, Delsol650 joined a year and a half later. He has 6,000 post, I only have 1,800. I would say 98% of my post have been in this forum only. Others post all over this sight, some don't. So I hope no one is intimidated by a mere number. I'm not intimidated by Delsol650, should I be Charles, LOL? You packing some heat we aren't aware of good buddy, LOL.
 
LOL , Mucho. I just like to chit chat with friends while I'm at work to lessen the stress at work. I also help out others at the other forums in RC which is why I guess I have too many post. I guess I should nickname my self 7/11, always got my mouth open talking. LOL

Damm, I'm already at 6000... SHEESH.

They shouldn't count meanless posts and stuff.
 
i check reef central everyday ( to learn from other reefers experience and other reef related stuff) but dont post too much. and i always randomly pm people too :) if i remember it right i pmed mucho too when i was starting.

because sometimes, youll get rude and insensitive comments when you post.

like if you post a new coral that you like and excited about , theyll say "oh i got that and i just scrape it off the rock and throw them, grows like a weed".

and if you miss spelled or dont construct the question well somebody will post a 10 paragraph preaching answer.

example, when i was starting in this hobby ( this happened on a different website)

ME: i just bought a tank, light, sand and rock that im cycling right now, what would you guys recomend that i buy next? but im at school right now so i would like affordable stuff but works ok.

GUY: you need a minimum of $30/g of your tank so if you have a 50g tank you should have $1,500 in your pocket right now. this hobby is not for everybody...you should know your limitation... you dont want to kill all your fish and corals with those crappy stuff... he goes over and over and ask me after 5 minutes, you want me to continue?

i was like HUH?

For real though, I joined this forum a while back. Took a long break for several years and came back. I admit, I too post the "nice tank" replies time to time while quickly browsing the forum at work or at 3:30 AM when my eyes are bleeding from reading trying to search for something.

Everyone I met from RC through local BAR and MARS clubs are cool people including delsol650! :)
 
Jun if you talking about me bro, please find that thread and post it here. When I say stuff like it grows like a weed. It means that it grows like crazy and you really don't need to do anything special to make it propagate. Example you regular yellow polyps or some botton polyps, they're nice but super fast growers but are aggressive and will over grow other corals.

When I say I scrape it off the rock. Its because those specific species are INVASIVE and WILL out grow most if not all coral on your main rocks. It'll end up growing over your other precious corals and killing it.

When I say I got them , I'm agreeing with you that its part of my collection as well.

Is it me or people here have gotten more and more sensitive now a days. I've spent more time helping folks here than bashing, talking down to other folks. Sometimes when I type it sometimes don't make sense its cause I'm at work at 5am in the morning and still the mind has not completely waken up yet.

As for telling you how to write your question. LOTS of people here have the usual. " having problems with me zoa, help me " people never say how their parameter are, wether they dipped etc... etc... see mucho's thread about asking for help etc.

If I ever, ever said something insensitive LMK right away don't come blasting me on air about something that would have happened a long time ago. Sometimes the hard thing with posts is people just read and sometimes misconstrude the message.
 
No no, you got me wrong Delsol, it's good you help and chat, that's what runs the sight, that's a good thing. I only refernced you because you were right above my post. The point I was trying to make was 3 fold.

1. It doesn't matter where you post, just post, that's all that's important. Whether you're chatting or helping, posting is what drives the sight.

2. My post count is low, as I don't talk much outside of this forum. It doesn't mean that I don't have knowledge to answer in the other forums, I just choose to stay focused here.

3. I was making a funny by saying you might be packing a little heat under your shirt and I didn't know if I should be afraid of you or not. LOL

I hope I came across that way my friend, LOL


To make a long story short, I would just like to see more people get involve the way you and so many others do.
 
Oh, I never misconstruded your post mucho. My other friends make fun of it to about my post count. You should see the thread on BAR about reefaholics there and They all pegged me as top 3. LOL. Me and you Mooch , where in the same page as always. You are the most respectfull person I've met here on RC>

Actually thought your post was funny.but like we talked about other folks here on RC seem to be more serious than others and takes things differently, often misconstrude post's.

you posted that right after I posted. which is why it was taken as you were talking about me. Hence my reply and seeing it, 5am in the morning at work on a saturday. LOL
