Prefered PE morph lighting intensity Question-

I have a few People eater morphs, and a bit rusty on final placement. If I recall right, these are shallow water, high light intensity loving corals....but cant recall for sure....dont want to melt them by taking them too close to the light during light acclimation.

I have the Red PE, Green PE and the Martian (Green speckled) PE morphs currently, Purple PE soon to follow.

You can do the standard start low then gradually move them up as time goes. The polyp will tell you whether their happy or not.

It's not so much about the intensity as the spectrum. You can put them under a ton of blue LED's and they'll look great, but intense white light will burn them.

How's it going SP, OG and 6 fifty? Long time guys.

I concur with those gents and I also make it a habit of just asking the previous owner/grower of the environment they were grown in across the board including lighting. This has always served as the best barometer to help gauge my placement of new arrivals. I agree, all new arrivals should start low and repositioned once or twice if there are any expansion issues.

Long time no see guys. Its been a while.

So far, I have got them placed, and acclimated to, about 5 inches from water surface, under 2x250W 14K HQI MH lighting, in a 50 gallon breeder. The lights are hung about 5 inches from the water surface.

I would really like to hear/find out in others experience, how they do they do best captive grown and maybe what conditions they are commonly found in the wild.

I have heard that Purple Peolple Eaters grow extreamly slow, and I have gotten hold of a very long time running captive grown line of them. I really want to see if I can get these to grow very well, like the other polyps in my tank. I figured I would start with lighting.

I also really enjoy the speckled face of the Matian PE, and would really be happy to hear the effect of this zoa to figher/lower lighting, as far as the mottled look to it and deepness in color.

The greens I lost in the past, but am giving then another try. I am thinking previousely it was my lighting not being strong enough, and am hoping to hear that in the wild, they are collected shallow. Hould hate to loose them because I was wrong, but hate to burn them up if they are deeper water collected polyps.

To me, the reds just look like they want light, so I am giving it a try.

I am very interested in growing all of these to colonies, and am really looking forward to the challenge of trying to grow the infamously slow growing PPE, faster the the commonly used words- 1 polyp/year.

mine tend to grow to colony then some ish' happens like tank crash or file fish / angel mowing them down... once I move and restart my tank i'll try to get back to Z's and P's again.

My PPE's took off rather quickly, but recently a large patch of them just...died. No idea why.

What were your lighting conditions at the time of good growth JJ650? And what was the water conditions when they disapeared?

No PE enthusiasts on the forums these days with any help growing these type of polyps? Or where they are comonly collected and conditions they were in?
