Got to MOFIB and look them up, they're actually rather easy to do, as far as shrimp go.

I think you may be confusing them with Lysmata wurdemanni (Peppermints) which when compared to Lysmata amboinensis (Scarlet Cleaner) could be considered rather easy. Lysmata amboinensis take considerably more work.

They need larger food than phytoplankton. Try newly hatched brine shrimp.

from what i heard, the have to be fed phyto the first couple of stages THEN artemia naupili.

I wish I could keep one let alone 2 of em in my tank, hard to do with 2 Engineer Gobies that are almost 18" long, $20 snacks for em, I've lost about 5 shrimp that way!

Try newly hatched brine shrimp from the beginning. They should be large enough to eat baby brine from the beginning.

Yes, cleaner shrimp are hermaphrodites (both male and female at the same time).
