Premature Cat Shark PLEASE HELP!!!

My lfs regularly got them in and had a friend that was the salt water specialist there. he got an egg and while he had it he was telling me you had to watch for the sac to disappear because they may need help out of the egg. So he ended up cutting his out and the yolk or sac was still attatched for a good week and it ended up living. Just need to start feeding when sac falls off. Same shark too.

Thats pretty much what happened here. He read that you have to watch the yolk and to cut them out when it was gone. He said he couldn't see it went on youtube and seen ppl cut them out, so he followed suit. I really hope it pulls through.

Fixed it for you.

:wavehand: Thanks.

Just make sure after you cannot see the yolk, give him/her a couple weeks before feeding. The shark is still digesting yolk inside its system, even though you cannot see it.
Feeding hatched sharks too early and too much is probably the #1 biggest cause of fatality.

it being hatched early is the whole problem. But so far so good. Once and if I get it to eat , Im probably going to give it to my LFS, my tank is to small and my buddy desided to go in a differant direction with his tank. Go Figure.

i have a newly hatched cat shark, (similair diet) and was able to speak with the lady in charge of shark husbandry at the georgia aquarium about what to feed. start with mysis, and VERY small pieces of cocktail shrimp. mine also takes hufa enriched brine and formula one frozen chunks. it should be fine but wait about a week after the yolk absorbs and then only feed about three times per week. think about how much a tiny, newly hatched shark would eat in the wild...its not alot

good luck!

Wow, had no idea that got that big.

Yeah right around 40 in. You can keep them in a 180-240gal for several years, but something much larger needs to be on the agenda for later on.
A shark pond is probably the most economical way to go.

Day 12 since it was cut out and the yolk ball is gone, but the i'm gessing embilical cord is still there. Its definatly more active. I figure another week and a half before I try to feed him. Once I get my comp back I'll post pics.

Here's pics of the progress of the shark. Just a little piece of the embilical cord left.

The last pic you can see there's a little piece left.

Pretty cool that he seems to be doing good. What are you going to do with him when you get him all better?

I'm probably going to give it to my LFS. Its a little mom and pop shop and he's pretty knowlagable. If he doesn't want it I'll keep it till I can find it a sutable home.

Thanks for the update. Nice to see it through. I imagine that it is not eating yet, but hopefully soon. Good work.
