Hi all, local fish store has a nice flame that is doing well. He's asking $80.00 for the fish and that seems high to me. I really don't want to pay that much(plus tax!!!) Has anyone or would anyone pay that much for a flame? Thanks all.

i saw a flame angel the other day at a new lfs for $85. i personally wouldnt spend more than $50-$60 for one, but i guess it really depends on where youre located. all of my other lfs's sell them for around $50-60 so i guess thats the price im used to, and $85 to me is quite overpriced. just my 2 cents...

I can't seem to get my head around it.$80.00 seems overpriced even from where I live. Newfoundland,Canada. I bet the store didn't pay much more than $10-$15(maybe less) for it. That's what I hate!!!!

Where was the flame collected? Some of them that are brilliantly colored red may be going for more.

40-50 but the price varies a lot. If you can get a good specimen it is worth paying more. I've bought a couple of these fish that were "bargains" only to have them not persist more than a week in quarantine.

you dont list where you are from but in my 2 lfs town where one store caters to AF pilots, doctors lawyers, judges and oil execs, where a yellow tang and a falme angel both are 80 each and the other store fish are more diesease/parisite infested than than any big chain store

but if i drive 2.5 hours north to the next closest lfs i can get a flame in excelent health for 50 any day of the week

so in your area 80 may be common price for a flame a lot depends on who thestore caters to and what type of compitition the lfs to what they charge for a fish

You would think with them being more available that the price would be lower.
I paid $79.00 for my Potters at my LFS and they are way less available than the Flame. I guess it does have something to do with where you live and how far they have to travel to get them to your LFS.

$75 at a good LFS here, prob $85 or 90 at another rip-off store i dont go to. my mom get me a flame for $75 for my birthday, was shocked at the price, but excited when i had it in the tank. my (not with me anymore) undulated at him tho. >:(

its its an amazing speciman in you opinion get it, if not dont.

Yes, Undulated's will eat just about ANYTHING in the tank with it. Sorry for your loss.:sad2:

Seems the price is not completely wacko. Dependent on a few things. I've been looking at a place called j&l aquatics out of Vancouver. They have flames there for $45.00 which beats the pants of lfs. Has anyone dealt with them? If so how did it go? Have half a mind to order all the fish I want and save a bundle. They guarantee live arrival and the fish would have to be flown across the whole of Canada!!! May go for it. Any thoughts at all. Thanks again for input.

I paid $60 ten years ago because my wife wanted it(and she is not a big fan of my hobby, so I was shocked). It was the best investment I ever made and he is still doing great. I have seen them here in SA as cheap as $29 and as much as $69, depends on the time of year and where it was collected. Look at it this way if you buy one at $40 and it dies and then you go buy another and it lives you actually paid $80?
