Prissy Sissy Diva!!

Well, my peacock, which was famed to be a monster with a taste for damsels and niger triggers, turns out to be quite the diva!!! She occasionally takes some frozen food, but she is allowing a fish and an astraea snail to live happily along side. She spends most of her time primping, preening, and cleaning. I'm not really sure why, but I have some possible theories:

1) It's just her personality
2) She's insecure about hunting (she lost one of her dactyls in a mishap, so she's gimpy)
3) She's still adapting to her new home (about 2.5 weeks in her new aquarium)
4) She's preparing to molt

A little more info: She's HUGE..about 6-7 inches...and really fat/wide. She appears to have small signs of shell disease...small holes in carapace, but they don't appear to be growing or discolored at all. I know for a fact that she can fly!!! I've seen her clear the top of her tank by at least a foot (that was an interesting day!!!), but I covered the tank soon after.

What do you guys think? I worry a little about her. It's just so much different than her previous persona. She's active and she spends plenty of time redecorating. She carries rock rubble around, looks at me and the students, probably cursing us. I never really hear her strike, but again..she has only one dactyl. The raptorial appendages are there, but one of her pink clubs is gone. She's remarkably docile. She has only killed one very small guppy.

I'm planning to add another couple of pounds of rubble, so she can continue to remodel. I also want to add a damsel, an emerald crab, some hermits, and some more snails. What type of snails would be good for her, considering she only has one dactyl?

Nerite snails have thin shells. However, even with a single dactyl, I assume that a big peacock could easily handle an astraea.

Sounds like you have quite a character there! I hope she recovers from her shell disease.

Even with one Dactyl she can probably crush any common snail she wants to. For her size though I would look into finding a cheap source of large Turbo snails, for live snacks. Some mantis just like come company. I know of one guy who had a Peacock and Pajama Cardinal in the same tank, and they shaired the same burrow. Go figure.

OK, guys I finally got some pics of her that I can post online. There are more pics in my gallery.

Notice her roommates casually strolling round the burrow:

Maybe she just isn't hungry...According to the guy I got her from, she ate several damsels and a few snails/crabs per day. I guess she's still just adjusting to her new home.

thats way too much food, she might have spurts like that though, when i got my peacock she had 4 turbo snails, a damsel and a camel shrimp her first day

Yeah, I have absolutely no intention of feeding her that much. This guy was really young and he was keeping her at the LFS where he works. I think he just kept messing with her all day to amuse guests.
