I have done a few research on U.V sterilizer, also post a thread on R.C and talking to a few old timers regarding to the use of U.V in SPS only tank. The more i talk to people, the more i get confuse. Can someone please clarify the below statement.

1. U.V sterilizer raise O.R.P

2. U.V Sterilizer turn your water crystal clear

3. U.V sterilizer zap all the free floater bacteria or parasite (i agree with this) How about pods?

4. U.V sterilizer work somewhat similar to Ozone

how much water should i feed through the 114w U.V sterilizer? The company recommended 3600gph max (aqua U.V)

How hot is the 114w U.V, will i notice temp different in my 550g system?

I plan to run my U.V 16hrs a day. the 8hrs period is when the MH on.

Do you notice any significant different when you add the U.V. Any color improvement etc?

Thank you for taking your time to answer my post

I would say 1200-1500gph max thru the 114watt UV unit.
It will heat your water with close to 114 watts of heat.
It will not kill the pods.
I run mine 24/7, turning on & off the lamps will shorten their life.
Your fish will love you.

It don't kill pods, only bacteria/algae/some parasite(small one)

114w is a hell of a UV, I got 9w on a 80g system.

I run it 24/7 and it won't heat as 114w of heat as some power is used by light.

What is really clear with a UV.
