Problem w/ my Com 9015

Hello Roger--

I have a 9015 Skimmer and don't think it has worked correctly since I got it. It worked good for 2-3 weeks, then it stopped producing anything. I cleaned it all out and now it is working correctly producing some foam, but not enough to reach the cup. I have read the other threads and the troubleshooting in the book and checked everything that is listed and all seems to be correct. Cant figure it out. I called you about it and you told me to check 2 things...part # 3130.16 and 3130.130. I cannot find 3130.130 in the manual. You mentioned having to possibly glue something back. I don't know what this would be. And what would I have to check w/ the venturi nozzle (3130.160)? Very frustrated because I want to get this working and am not very smart about this. Once I check/fix this part, I will run it in the vinegar/H2O solution as you suggested. Thanks for the help!

I was just about to return your call. 3130.13 will be in the section of the manual discussing the pump. The easiest way to find a good picture of any part is to search by part number on tunze.com.

Got it. Man you're quick!!! Allright, are you saying that 3130.16 needs to be glued on to 3130.13? Now both are independant of each other. What kind of glue?

Just got the skimmer back and dropped it in on Tues. and the improvement is great. Thank you for your attention to fixing the problem. Just a quick question-is it normal for the skimmer to lose its foam when food or supplements are added to the tank? It's happened twice, and it takes a bit to get the foam worked up again.

Yes it would be normal for this and any skimmer. Foods contain oils and other things which for a period of time basically mess with the surface tension that makes skimming possible until it breaks down. Usually takes 30-120 min to get back on track depending on what was fed. Oily foods like mysis shrimp will make this take on the longer side. If you already dont for larger foods like the mysis it is good to rinse before feeding in a brine net, will help with excess nutrients in the tank a bit too. Of course do not do this for food that contain things that would be rinsed away for filter feeds, Rod's Food for example.

On the other hand water conditioners like NovaAqua will have the exact opposite effect
