Problem

Ok. Just used the TDS meter and NOT GOOD.
How do I determine if the media has simply gone bad or I'm getting too much pressure in turn blowing it out? I've only tested my RO/DI once and it was fine but that was at the beginning?
I use the hookup below my washer so there is quite a bit of pressure.

Any suggestions? Is it easier to simply buy a new RO/DI unit vs. new media?

It's ALMOST as cheap to replace the RO/DI unit but not quite.

You may save about $20.00 to $30.00 by replacing the media only.

If that even. But how can I determine where the actual problem is. If I'm blowing the membrane, I'm going to keep doing so.

Anyone have a psi meter that hooks up to garden hose like hookup?

Never looked at it that way I'm guessing you mean when you have to replace all cartridges. The one cartridge on mine says every 2 years, and it does cost a lot more than the other 4 put together.

How far off is your TDS. I changed my DI resin and it was fine.

My next unit will have 2 DI chambers

You can find those meters at HD or Lowes in the sprinkler system area. They are only about $5.00-$10.00 dollars.

You would have to have some might high pressure to blow your cartridges.

How old are they?

Everything in the tank is doing well. Coral color isn't quite what I want but that would explain. Still not bad though.
I'm going to chill on water changes until I figure this out.

No guage on the RO/DI unit. I'll pick one up tomm

The unit is about 8-9 months old.

I did not get it from filterdirect
I got it from this
http://cgi.ebay.com/Reef-100GPD-Rev...6QQihZ002QQcategoryZ20684QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If the link is not allowed, the item number is 120048953086

Looks pretty much identical to the filterdirect.

Thanks for all the help!

I just searched for a post I replied to a couple months ago. The

Typhoon III states that the PSI should not exceed 75 PSI
That's not that high

I am a big fan of Spectrapure...they are a full-service company with a lot to offer and one of the oldest RO/DI companies out there. They have accurate purity monitors, decent pressure gauges, 0.5 micron carbon and sediment prefilters and their membranes are among the best available.

They might not be the cheapest, but if you use their products you can reliably tell when it is time to change a filter or how to prolong the life of the filters you have. Charles is their customer support man and he is very knowledgable...I have learned a lot about RODI from him with several conversations in the past.

You get about 2000 tds out of a full sized di resin change give or take. On a good 75 gpd membrane and the water hardness in Ballwin, it will be about 10 tds out of the r/o unit. Take that X30 if you're using a brute 32 gallon can. You'll get about 6 brute cans of water out of each resin change.

Thanks roy. That means I'm WAY over that. I know you just bought some di resin. Where can I get just a large bag of it? (reputable)
However, on almost any of the RO/DI units out there, they all show that after the RO part the TDS will be around 20 and after the DI stage, it should be around 1-3

If I'm at 116, that would imply that the filter stages are not working anymore either, correct?

Odds are you have a hole in the membrane. I have an extra membrane that only has a few months on it. It's a 100 gpd one too which are rated 96% or something bogus. I upgraded to a 75 gpd one soon after buying this one. In reality they are about 90%. You should still get down to 30-40 and fix the rest with the di. I got my di resin here and they were really fast:

When you order I'd highly recommend one of these to add on and the refillable cartridge too:

I already had a dual inline tds which I hook on the outlet of the ro and the other on the outlet of the di. I got a pressure gauge from the same place too:
