Prodibio

Look back on the thread Trueperc and you'll see this is exactly where people were getting into trouble. Be very carefull mixing other carbon sources with Prodibio. Better to stick with using just Prodibio, it's a lot easier than vodka too

I did not have a problem with vodka and prodibio. not thinking we know for sure vodka was a problem. only speculation.

I am dosing 2 vials of BioDigest every two weeks in my 220gallon.(I have a total of 300+gallons in my system) I have not had any ill effects,RTN, or any other problems. I think it is best to follow the manufacture's recommendations on dosage. I have seen nice polyp extention and colors seem to have deepened a bit. According to the directions Dose 1 vial of BioDigest for up to 1000 ltrs.(approx.250gals) I have a little over 300 gallons in my total system hense 2 vials. I have been dosing for almost 4 months now with no problems. As for the Reefbooster I dose 3 vials every week on sunday evening.s I dose all other products every 14 days sat. evenings. I do my water changes on Fridays once a month the day before I dose the BioDigest, BIOPTIM ,Stronti+, and Iodi+ . I also run a Carbon reactor along with a Phosphate reactor, 24/7 change them out every 14 days on fridays.
I dose every 14 days :
2 BioDigest
6 BIOPTIM
1 Stronti+
1 Iodi+

I also dose every 7 days one day later in the week :
3 Reefboost

I do a 30% water change once a month the day before I dnse the majority of the Prodibio . My water parameter are as follows:
salinity 35 PPt
Ph 8.3
Temp 77F
Calcium 450ppm
Alk. 12.5 dKH
Phosphate 0
Nitrate less than 3 ppm
Mag. 1350 ppm

Truperc, I have been running exactly the system you speak of. You can go back to pg.6 for details and pictures of my dosing scheme (the second detailed post is more complete). There is a 1.5 month follow up with pics on pg 9. It features Digest, Biotim, and Salifert additives, with Vodka as a carbon source.

I have had some problems, but am not quick to blame it on the combination of products since I have had algae issues in previous systems with this rock. Furthermore, I have had some alkalinity and temperature swings that are known to cause rtn and stn diseases.

Wow, i just realized i finished reading this thread since page one at 11pm, its not 2am LOL, alot of great info.

Has anyone noticed any amazing result from using this or just some nice things here and there?

Also i have noticed 50/50 results in the same tank depending on the species, tell me if i am wrong but would this product be best in a sps dominated tank?

Capt, these products are designed for use in a low-nutrient systems. This in fact is what is found in coral bulilding sps reefs around the world. In fact, some coral animals that prefer more nutrient-rich waters may suffer, like some softies and zoanthids. I certainly have not witnessed my system approaching th elow-nutrient phase as of yet.

Cheers,
Scott

ROR yes there have been rtn/stn and other problems including increased algea growth the addition of red cyano when there was none before from the sole use of prodibio. this is why some people chose to start slower and not full recommended strength. and add reefbooster only after they see a significant lightening in corals. some people have used the products exactly as stated and had great results and no death and no algea. I can't say I am one of the lucky ones but I do alot of tinkering so I expect things to go wrong it's just my story.

Is there another product I can use besides reef booster that won't kill skimming for two days like reef booster does? I like the prodibio system so far, but I hate the fact that reef booster puts my skimmer out of commission for two days every week.

I generally keep the skimmer off overnight when I dose it, but when I do turn it back on, I have to watch it like a hawk because it will overflow no matter how I have it tuned. Then I spend another day tuning the skimmer back to where I had it. It's driving me nuts and seriously making me considering stopping with the system. I've flooded my stand three times since I started with this system because of reef booster.

never experienced my skimmer going crazy and it only shuts down for about an hour. is the skimmer outlet unobstructed or do you use a gate valve? I used to have that problem in general once in a while it would go crazy but I took the gate valve off and it works much better for me. consistent water level is much more important with a gate valve.

Never had that problem with my skimmer on the 2 times that I've used booster.

I'm starting to see some great growth with prodibio. I finally got the nutrients down so I started to dose booster 2 weeks ago. Only 1 vial though, since I'm adding AA's mid-week.

I use a ball valve on the outlet to raise the water level in my Deltec AP600, as they suggest in the instructions. However it doesn't matter, even with the ball valve wide open, it will overflow the skimmer after dosing reef booster.

Sounds like the problem is in your skimmer somehow. My EV-180 shuts down for half a day, then goes right back to normal. Anyone experiencing less skimmate with Prodibio, mine is about half, lighter, and not as nasty smelling since starting Prodibio. More sludge builtup on the sides of the riser though.

Can I ask how long you have been using prodibio?

There's nothing wrong with the skimmer. The reef booster kills the skimming for a half a day to a day or so like most people experience. The problem is once the skimmer starts back up, the opposite effect is seen. Instead of foaming less, it foams even more and pushes clear skimmate into the cup no matter the water level of the skimmer. What I might try next is draining the skimmer and refilling it before I restart it next time, so there is no water trapped in the skimmer for half a day before it gets restarted.

Deltec skimmers are german made; Prodibio is French. Need I say more? :D

My Euro-Reef 12-2's bubble tower collapsed at first, but then recovered later that night. By morning it was normal again.

man you jinxed me. went home today and my skimmer was overflowing. I added 1 bioptim and one booster last night. funny.

See!! You gotta watch out, I'm telling you! I'm paranoid to leave my skimmer running while I'm at work after I dose reef booster the previous day.

no clue what happened. I have been dosing as long as anyone in the states except the supplier and have never experienced this before so I am not worried. I am using some other stuff also and forgot and dosed both in the same day. that may or may not have had anything to do with it. of course I have a coral that is stn'ing today so isn't it just wonderful.
