Prodibio

I hear you should discontinue it. I need to stop using mine, but my P04 is usually close to .1 which is higher than I want so I keep it in there. I read that I am being counterproductive with the bacteria by leaving it in though.

The optim / digest should eventually drop / keep PO4 down. I took off GFO and haven't seen any need to put it back.

What's your current PO4 level?

I just tested it yesterday with API test kit and it was undetectable. I am not sure how reliable this test kit is. Can you suggest a more reliable kit?

A hanna phos meter is very accurate, maybe someone in your area has one. I finally broke down and bought one and its very easy to use and accutrate!

Zedar,
I looked at the above kits and they seem to be real good kits. I have a question about the tropic marine kit, how can it be so cheap and still be as good as the Hach or the Merck? Or is the Tropic Marin similar to the API in terms of reliability/accuracy?

Yea, a buddy has one but he is out of the reagent. :(
He has the meter that measures a lot of params but just ran out of the reagent.

Its not going to be as accurate.

Anything below .03 will show up as 0. Thats the limit of its capability

But of course anything below .03 doesn't matter :)

It's the best of the cheapy kits.

I have the luxury of working for the Philadelphia water department. If i second guess the kit I take a sample of water to work. They have hi end merck p04 spectrometers in the lab :) they read down to ppb

So far the tropic kit has been accurate. When it shows up as 0 on the tropic kit the merck will come in at say .023 or .028

I ended up getting the Elos kit. My results came back at .01.
Once my friend gets his reagents, I will compare the results to the Hanna.

Week 6 of the Prodibio system. I did my first dosing of the booster. The first 6 weeks were Optim and Digest only. All looking good so far.

Primetime -

Did you stop using the GFO?

Notice any changes in the tank - seems like you already had low nutrients

Thanks

I continued to use the gfo/PhosarHC. Seems there are arguments for and against the continued use. I have noticed a big time difference in the clarity of the water since I began dosing Prodibio. Hopefully things will continue to go smoothly.

I have been on Prodibio for a year now...I went off of GFO 1.5 months ago after I had purchased a hanna phosphate meter were I could closely monitor any changes. Before I went off of GFO I was running .02 on the Hanna and since I have removed the GFO I am holding steady at .03 I actually feed Rods food every day too.

Not noticing any difference in the corals from removing the GFO but my pocket book will start noticing as good GFO is about equal to the price of gold these days.

Stay tuned...

Hello, I have just bought the Biokit and just want to check a few things before I start using it because there isn't any instructions!!
My tank is a 8 month old 90 uk gal, I don't run a skimmer at the moment but do have a MCE 600 gathering dust!! I don't really want to run a skimmer but I will do to try this stuff out!!
At the moment the only corals are a few zoas.
For the first dose do I just stick one of each in (apart from the reef booster!!)? On the back of the box it says 1 amp of Bio Digest up to 1,000 liters, so does that mean I am safe to stick a whole one in? And the most important one do I have to run a skimmer with this or will weekly water changes do the job?

Sorry if these have been answered before, I don't have internet at home so I am using my phone!! Thanks for the help!!

Damm!! That's what I thought, thank you! One more question is this ok to use with a dsb?! Sorry about this I have read up a bit but keep thinking of new things to ask!!

Chris- Each package of Prodibio usually has instructions printed on the tiny plastic case. If you can't find the mfg's recommendations, find their website and read it there.
