Prodibio

What's each amp rated for, how many liters or gallons does it say? Those look huge!
well the dosage is 10x's the normal size. so for the avg amps dose of 400l per amp these big guys will give you up to 4000l which is like 1000 gallons!
So these are actually almost too big for me, but I may use them (if the price is right) and dose every 20 days instead of 14 maybe.

Melev, what is this?

It is a product that gradually reduces nitrates in the tank over a 30 day period.

Hi guys

Thinking of starting to dose biodigest, bioptim and reefbooster

Couple of questions

(1) Any problems running a filter sock? I run a 100 micron sock and I am wondering if the bacteria will be filtered out by this or just go right through? Wikepedia says:

Bacterial cells are about 10 times smaller than eukaryotic cells and are typically 0.5â€"œ5.0 micrometres in length.

I am guessing they will go right through

(2) Also - do people recommend using a bigger dose of the biodigest for the first dose? I think I saw somewhere that the dose for the first time people use the product is 1 ampule per 60 liters?

(3) Do people also feed the tank while using prodibio in addition to the reefbooster? What do you recommend - pappone, Rod's food?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts

Will

There should be no issues with a filter sock or carbon if you run that. Do not start with a bigger dose of biodigest. The key is consistency, start with recommended or less, and continue with recommended, adjusting a touch as you see fit for your tank. Click my red hosue if interested in my tank / prodibio use on it. I'm happy with results so far.

I would not start dosing Reefbooster until the digest / optim bacs have had some time to establish themselves. I do feed as well (Rod's, cyclopeeze, DT's eggs, and others). I tend to feed heavily as well, and I do not dose the full amount of reefbooster, as it can give me small blooms if I do too much.

Well I got the ampules this evening - alot smaller than I was expecting! Looking forward to seeing how they work

Follow the directions. you are supposed to dose more biodigest at the beginning according to the directions. Then a lesser dosage as maintenance.

Would a skimmer make this method less efficient???

No...............you need a good skimmer.

I was reading on the Prodibio website that the initial dose of Biodiest should be 1 ampoule per 60 litres.
does that mean i should use 5 1/2 ampoules for my initial dose on a 90 gallon setup?

No, thats sounds like it's for a new tank start up. Has your tank been running a while? If so, I'd do 1 amp every 2 weeks. The regular dose is 1 amp biodigest for 1000L (250 or so gal?), and fine to dump the whole vial for only 90.

Carbon dosing is best done on a tank with low N03 - P04.

Anything above 0.10 Phosphate and you will need to use a GFO. Run the GFO until your P04 levels are about 0.04.

If your N03 is above 20ppm then start doing some water changes.
Do 25% water changes every 3 days until your nitrates are at or below 20 ppm.

Once these values are achieved you can dose prodibio or whatever carbon source you want.
And you will want to STOP using GFO once you start the prodibio.

Prodibio works because it supplies bacteria with carbon. They use carbon along with nitrates and phosphates. If any of these three are limited, the bacteria die off, and the nitrates and phosphates start to rise.

Hello all!!
I just did my first dosing of Bioptim and BioDigest this past Saturday on my 150gal predominant SPS tank.
I am seeing/hearing mixed reviews on continuing to use Phosar HC. What is the correct answer? Discontinue or continue usage?

Thank you,
Brock

The optim / digest should eventually drop / keep PO4 down. I took off GFO and haven't seen any need to put it back.

What's your current PO4 level?
