Prodibio

So from my understand of what is said is that you can just add BIODIGEST to refresh the needed bacteria and maybe some of the issue that have been stated in this thread is due to overdriving. Myself I going to start using BIODIGEST after my water that I do every two weeks and my tank sound be able to provide the needed food with out over doing it. This means the cost is way down as if I where to dose the BIOPTIM, I would need at least 6 vials as per instructions.

you should not use GFO when using prodibio. the po4 will be removed faster by the gfo than the bacterias...limiting the bacterias growth. N and P must be in sync for both to come down via bac export. using both is like trying to ride a motorcycle and a car at the sametime. pick which type of transportation (or export in this case) you want and stick to it. mixing the two is not a good idea, imo.

your tank does not have the elements needed to keep the bacs alive on their own. we have a captive system, where phytoplankton and bacteriaplankton cannot live by themselves. these products keep the bacterioplankton alive in the tank and keep the populations up.

adding the bac strains would have an effect, but it would be minimal as they would not grow, multiply and export like they would with carbon and nitrogen as fuel. basically it will become a very expensive coral food. not the nutrient reduction with the benefit of feeding corals as it's designed.

hth.

Just be careful that your tank parameters are stable before adding this, especially the alkalinity (should be at NSW levels, 6-8dhk). Otherwise undesired results may occur. I don't speak from experience as I haven't used it but other people have had coral TN with these systems if their alkalinity isn't spot on what it should be.

The attached files where just want they have on there web site. From my understanding of the info provided the bacterias consume "in the tank, the bacteria eat the non eaten food, the fish excrements ... to transform them in biomass."

"And to BOST the bacteria work, we have develop a product "BIOPTIM". This product is made to enhanced the activity of the bacteria in their tank cleaning and balancing job"

Our tanks should have enough food to support the bacterias to bring our phos and nitrates under control. This is like add some new live rock as a tank ages these bacterias die out or only certain ones survive hence one fo the issue with old tank syndrome. So by just adding BIODIGEST, should not only be coral food which is plus you are adding the readding and refreshing the bacterias need to optimal denitrification and phos removal. I am hoping not to have to use an GFO, the cost difference is huge BIODIGEST is so much cheaper, its when you are adding the BIOPTIM the cost really goes up on larger systems. This is also a much more natural way of filtration. Just my two cents and what I am gathering from all the reading I am doing.

again research this. you are basing all this off of the claims made by prodibio themselves.

for this bacteria need more than nitrogen to live. in order in influence the uptake of po4, carbon and nitrogen must be present in correct ratios, (wether that is the redfield ratio or more dramatic as others have found we do not know for sure)...again, otherwise you are just adding expensive coral food that will not last, nor reduce nutrients.

you want to add just enough carbon so that your n and p can be best "used up". there is no replacement for c.

Is anyone running kalk with this product? I read somewhere that you shouldn't dose kalk?

I am running a calcium reactor and adding kalk to my 5 gallon auto top off...Should I stop?

Thanks

The research I've done on these products indicates that you need to keep the alkalinity at NSW levels, 6.5-8.5 dhk or else your corals might RTN.

Is there an easy way to figure out a schedule for a smaller tank...say a 58 gallon?

I would dose 1/2 BioDigest and 1 Bioptim every two weeks. You will have to throw out the unused Digest as you cannot store it once it has been opened.

If that goes well then I would try adding all the Digest but keep the Bioptim at 1 ampule.

What about carbon?

What about running UV?

What about dosing Kalk?

How long should you shut your skimmer off when you first dose.

Also when going to prodibio's site, whatever it says in litres, to convert to gallons, take the litres X .264 and that will give you gallons.

Carbon-No problem
UV-turn off to allow bacteria to settle to substrate 24-48hrs
Kalk- I see no reason to avoid it, except for a slightly elevated pH, it should be no different than other Ca+/Alk methods
Skimmer-No effect when dosing Bioptim/Biodigest, with Reefbooster 6-12hrs

Liters/3.8 also gives you gallons.

Prodibio is apparently coming out with a nano sized ampoule. Since I bought mine before that was announced, for my 25 gallon my current schedule is as follow after talking to them. 1 Biodigest each 2 weeks, 1 bioptim each 3 weeks, 1/2 vial reef booster each week. You can use the whole vial on a smaller tank, just use less frequently they told me. I guess you can store half of the booster in the fridge stuck in a potato or something, but i just toss it.

So far I've seen a steady reduction in NO3 (at last test was 10ppm from 20 or 25pmm at first test) and not a trace of unwanted algae. Was adding the bioclean combo for ~1.5 months before I just started reef booster, and have seen no effects from the reef booster yet, other than super cloudy water for a few hours after the dose. My PO4 is still high, I've still got a couple brown acro, so only time will tell. I'm noting and tracking my progress on my red house, please click away if you're so inclined

No, but I may try it again in about a month or so.

Currently I'm dosing AZNO3 and want to get that behind me before I start something else. All my parameters are slowly lining up where they belong.

I am going on a year with prodibio in my 600 gallon tank.
I was at MACNA and saw the new stuff. The rep gave me a nano kit which seems to be the same sized glass vials but they have a small amount of fluid in them ( I gave them to our clubs raffle)
I also got some of the new huge 10x sized amps.
These will work great for me since i am dosing a lot of reef boost and optim, I think i'll stick with the standard amps for the digest since i only use 2.
I hope this means a price break for us big tank guys.
I emailed several vendors and they had no clue a larger amp was already being produced, but the rep at MACNA said he thought late October they would be coming to america possibly.
Here's a pic to show the size of these guys............I was impressed to say the least ;)
