Prodibio

Scott, I was glad to see my first corraline on the tips of many rocks. I'll be exploring the 'can macro co-exist with Prodibio' question. My refugium/seahorse tank now has a pipefish in it. He's a happy eating pods. I'm looking forward to a fading hair algae problem as well.

So I'm doing a more conventional protocol on my home reef w/o using Prodibio, and the 160g system is my Prodibio lab.

Any thoughts on Salifert All in One w/Prodibo?

I have macro in my main display. it would be doing great if my fish didn't keep eating the tops off it. it is growing and spreading slowly. not the greenist I have ever seen but that could be an iron shortage or whatever else who knows. probably why zeovit has iron available.
my red cyano is about gone maybe another week or so.
I have to recommend that no one try zeo amino acids with polyplab products. literally overnight one bright green acro turned completely brown and 3 milli's rtned and are dead. I don't mind experimenting it does suck I lost a couple nice acros but I got 8 more replacements yesterday. well 2 were caps. I tried a couple drops of this one with a couple drops of the other both were dosed under half. I couldn't wait anymore to try the zeo coral vital and zeo acids. everyone is claiming such good results so I gave it a shot. I will wait a week before adding anything else. been 3 days so far and everything uneffected the first night appears fine.

Andy, I use the All-in-One with my dosing scheme. If you go back a few pages you will see the complete list of itmes I am dosing.

The vodka method just supplies carbon for bacterium growth. It is a method that is not selective as to what bacterium will be affected.

With Prodibio digest and opt you are suppling a select bacterium strain and food. There is no need to use both methods. Infact, since I have stopped the vodka additions, my tank resonding much better.

I also use a weekly dose of reefbooster and dailey doses of CV and AAHC. The CV and AAHV were only started after 2.5 months, when I reached level two.

It is my belief that too many people are trying too many things at the same time to get a fix on what works. One at a time, see the results and then make changes.

I agree Mikeatjac. I am just sticking to my current regiment of BioDigest,OpT,Reefbooster, and Saltwater Correct Stronium and iodine. I was thinking about the Zeo Amino Acids but I am not sure if things are stable enough to start a new therpy....Sometimes I wish Iwan taught some sort of class on how to manage this stuff.

In other notes I am starting up a Seahorse/Macro tank. I am still toying with the idea of using BioDigest and BioOptimun in it. Not to sure how the bacteria will compete with the macros for food. However I havee also thought about using the Prodibio startup kit. The only thing with that is I am not sure if the Stop Ammo is really all that important.

I like the aahv in my system but I was using it before I started prodibio . The one thing I have notice is instead of 4 drops a day I only need 2 now . My acros are starting to come back after I stopped using vodka and started a lower dose of aahv . I really don't understand why some people are having problems with soft corals though . Mine zoos are looking great and the xenia in my tank is very healthy .

I think I will take and post some pics of my tank tonight .

mike I agree we are trying too much and losing some corals because of it. the good thing that can come from it is someone in the future will hopefully see our results and at least have that to reflect on before forking out the extra cash on something non useful or something that hasn't worked for the masses. I am stopping polyplabs stuff at least for now to test some other dosages.
hey bosborn if you have one tank running with biodigest and don't want to over dose or something in another tank with macro or something. what I would try is to dose the main tank with bacteria or whatever you want and then the next day take a cup of water from it and put it into the seahorse tank. you will at least have the bacteria available in the tank . it may or may not work . when I do water changes I take a cup out of my tank and put in the mixing barell of new water just incase there is ammonia or anything in there bacteria might be able to help. a lfs owner does this and I did it when I set my new tank up hoping it might help at least a little bit.

Alright, so I think I'm ready for the big leap here.
The tank is a 58G with a 20G sump for approximately 80G volume, rounded numbers. ASMG3, no calc reactor (dosing 2 part), 1 150MH plus 2 96PC's (I know, soon enough I'll get a larger tank and go 250's). I have zoas, LPS, some softies, but really trying to see if I can get my 7-8SPS to be happier...

PH: 8.2
Salinity: 1.026
Phosphates: 0
Nitrites: barely detectable
Nitrates: 10ppm
Calcium: 420
Alk: 4.5 meg/L
Ammonia: 0

Lotsa fish, using Rod's food...

I have their "biokit reef".

I'm considering:
1 Biodigest a week, 4 weeks to start.
1 Bioptim a week , 4 weeks to start

Will defer reefbooster for a month, based on what everyone observes...

Anyone else dosing the other 3 in the kit, strontium, iodine, and their biotrace? I figure with the regular once a week changes (more agressive lately than the 10% weekly to lower nitrates / nitrites) I should be getting plenty of iodine and calcium, which Salifert seems to confirm. I'm using Tropic Marin Reef salt for now...

* Does everyone agree with 1 ampule of Biodigest and Bioptim per week?
* Should I dose one ampule of the strontium and iodine along with?
* To Biotrace, or not to Biotrace?

Cheers...

One biodigest is good for two weeks and 250gallons. Most people using these products have found that overdosing has caused coral death and some other problems. I would advise that you start off slower.

Your tank only requires 1/3 an ampule of Biodigest, dose that amount every two weeks. Discard the remaining bacteria after soaking in bleach. I do not suggest you try and save it, because it will spoil.

Post some before pictures when you get the chance.

I've been dosing 1 amp biodigest and 2 amps bioptim every two weeks in my 90 with 20 sump. So I've been overdosing? I haven't noticed any problems after three doses of the stuff. Now I'm wondering if I need to cut back?

when overdosing what people think is bacteria do you get a bloom or haze in the tank or do you get a film on the glass that will actually come off in very thin pieces not dusty like diatoms? when over dosing whatever it was I was overdosing I got the thin layer near the sand on the glass. could be a pre determining factor to let someone know to slow down. I had this several times trying to figure things out. I do not think I was overdosing bacteria but maybe over feeding the bacteria.

I am not sure what effects over dosing has but several members have reported problems in doing so. However, after I started dosing according to the directions instead of rounding up, I did see an improvement in my corals.

So according to the directions I should be dosing a little less than half of a bio digest, and two bioptims in my 90g/20g sump every two weeks?

Maybe I'll give the lower dose is a try. I haven't had problems yet with the current dose, but I don't want to cause problems.

I'm not sure about the CV and AAHC, that stuff is extremely pricey!

CV and AAHC last a long time. Tank your size, the small size would last over a year. Maybe you can split it up with someone in your area. You don't need it until your corals look a little pale. They sure do color the corals up.

Only one of my corals has looked pale since I started prodibio. A light green cap that turned even more light green. It's actually gotten darker on it's own the past week though for some reason. The others have actually colored up better than before. Is it like a certainty corals are going to get pale with prodibio? How long did it take you to see that happen?

Other products less expensive with some positive reports are:

Sailifert Amino Acids
Tropic Marin Marine Elements A and K

The dosage on Digest says up to 1000l or 250g. I do the whole vial but I don't bust myself trying to get every last drop out and as ya'll know that stuff does'nt come out so easily. Oh, I have 170g net.

Here is a recent pic of my tank. This was taken on 6/6 during my problems.
