ProfiLux Plus III what do you want???

So, before I hop on here, I do want to mention that I don't have a ProfiLux controller yet. I still have a Neptune Aquacontroller (which seems horribly antiquated when compared to the ProfiLux line), but I'm hoping to upgrade to a ProfiLux in the next few months.

It's been mentioned that the View won't have a touchscreen, so as to keep prices down. It seems like most people wanted the touchscreen mainly for a feed button. What I'd like to see (and I'm not 100% sure this isn't available already) is support for simple sensors. For example, there could be simple push-button switches as an accessory, I could mount one somewhere near the tank, and when I push it, it initiates a feeding cycle. Or, I could have another switch for shutting off the lights when I introduce a new animal to my tank. It could get even more complicated, where there could be some potentiometer switches, and I could have a knob for easily changing the light intensity, or the waves, or something.

It seems like it'd be fairly simple to add something like this, and be able to access the value of the sensor in the programmable logic, and act accordingly. I think giving this flexibility to the end-users would allow us to come up with some really cool uses for it.

I would also like to see a full-fledged web server for control/monitoring, as others have mentioned on here. For those that have the device now, what I'm thinking of doing if this isn't an option, is to have a cheap laptop, connect it to the ProfiLux, and enable remote desktop to it. That way I can check on my tank/control it from anywhere (there are remote desktop clients available for iPods and Blackberries too).

I have to agree that a Telnet (/SSH?) or the option to send logging messages to a remote syslog server would be great. However, I don't really see too high a demand for this, so I'm not holding my breath. I have to disagree with the suggestion for Wireless-N (perhaps that was a joke?). Not only is 802.11 N still a draft, and quite likely to change in the future, but are 54 Mbps really not enough? It seems like this would just increase the price without *any* benefit.

Two final suggestions: Assuming the PIII will have a LAN port built in, it should have the option to connect to an NTP server, and synchronize it's clock to that. It's free, and isn't geographically restricted like the clock receiver. The second suggestion (and this too might already be in there), is for e-mail alerts. Maybe this is just limited to North American cell phone carriers, but most (all?) give the user an e-mail address for text messages to go to their phones. I think this would allow for some of the functionality of the SMS gateway (obviously it can't respond to text messages coming to the device, like I think the SMS gateway can), while also adding some flexibility.

I know that for not even having one now, that's a lot of suggestions. As a techy, I just couldn't really resist thinking about what my dream controller would have, and adding my 2 cents. I'm really excited about your line of controllers, and can't wait to see what the PIII will bring.

Hi

Good to see you here :)

For the push switches you talk of this is already in impementation with the launch of the user programmable analogue and digital expansion cards you should see this on the market for May 09

As for the touch screen display GHL are still going through what would be best for the market based on user requirement and cost. taking also into account touch screens have a habit of not working too well in damp and electro static enviroments such as ballast discharge.

The web server will be quite powerful, this is something GHL are working on very hard as they know that this sort of technology is not only changing by the month but also the demand is very high and so to is the functionality the client now also demands

Email alerts are already part of profilux now and also so are text messaging, this will not change of course.

We really appreciate your input and all suggestions are taken very seriously as GHL build the next generation of high end aquatic controllers. Please feel free to pass any suggestions onto us.

Welcome to our great forum :)

I first posted this in another thread and it might of been missed. I understand the III will have more that one RS232 ports. If so could the AI leds be used on more than two channels ? This way led fixtures could be assigned different levels of intensity based on the corals below them. By daisy chaining the ones you want together you could have different light intensity in different areas .

GHL need an iPhone application, plain and simple.

They really should release an API that programmers can use. It won't effect the current system but will allow developers etc to build and put out some great applications (desktop, mobile, and web).

I hope to put together my own iPhone web app for the GHL... will post details as I go along.

Thanks.

Looking forward to seeing yours.

I do know GHL are not ones to be left behind they just make sure they get it right first time :) It has been discussed thats all i am prepared to say at this point.

I wanted to bump this as it seems to have fallen asleep lol... also wanted to say that I think current monitoring needs to be included as neptune is releasing a new sytem with this included and I know GHL dont like to be left behind!!!

also any news on the digital/analog input card and IMO the veiw three needs a really sleek look with controls for remote controlling

I believe all this has been brought up before just mentioning again

Hiya

Oh things are working well :) I have been working on news with the PIII all day today actually.

I also have seen your post in regards to the Vortech hook up and although i received an interesting email only today from a user of both Vortech and GHL I will not release any info unless it comes directly from Eco tech themselves.

In regards to Neptune both Matthias and I have been following this greatly and are very happy with what we have seen there, so read between the lines as to why we may be happy ;)

We will have a great new controller very soon leaving even the latest of controllers coming on the market behind us dont you worry.

The reason things have gone quiet with news is because GHL are now at a stage in development that they do not want to pass any details onto the competition.

The new analogue/digital card is on its way, only today i requested 2 to be fast tracked to me in advance of our next shipment, although I do not know if this request can be met as it is 1 month in front of official launch.

We really have nothing to fear in the competition, so dont worry, by the end of this year you will really see why :)

And if anyone is waiting for the release of teh PIII before buying please read this first

sounds great :D figured you were aware of neptune just making sure and its killing me for the wait with all the little comments like your last post lol I love the hardware and computers part of the hobby

Thanks for the great product and ill try to wait patiently for the PIII if I can lol

;)

We will keep you posted and sorry its all gone a bit cloak and dagger but we have to protect the massive amount of research and development that has gone into the PIII :)

definitely understood that is why we all buy this controller to stay ahead of the pack lol

and also the phenomenal support, constant upgrades, and the awesome stability and reliability

If the testing goes well we could have some significant news that will make many sit up and think, but I am not going to give anymore details just incase it does not work under 110V 60hz. it worked great in Europe but we shall see

OK OK just lit the blue touch paper and ran away :blown: but just thought i would add some drool factor to the thread.

If it works I will post here right away what it is and if it does not I will still post here while kicking the ground and sucking on my teeth ;)

Any further word about Vortech/Profilux playing nicely together? ...please say yes, just purchased a MP20... and I love my GHL EX II...

Bummer...It would make so much sense to see some of the worlds best pumps working with the world's best controller.
