Project 150 gallon had officially started

Chris, awesome job. I was gone all weekend and didn't get on RC at all. It is cool to come back and see all the good work you have done. Pretty damn impressive!! I can't wait to see it all done. Awesome open plan, the aquascaping looks great. This really makes me start to think about a wavebox in my 90....

thanks alot chris,i just need to skin and trim the hood and im done.the aquascaping came out good i think,i left all kinds of openings for flow and lots of caves.just a few more pounds of rock and it will be done.

.............AND THEY SAID LET THERE BE LIGHT...............
so i got the light rail done and now 750 watts of halides are blasting the tank :)

Chris it looks great!

When are you going to skin it?What are you doing with the hood doors? If you need help tearing them apart I have practice.

Did you use a carbon source (vodka or sugar) when you cooked your rocks. I gave mine a shot of vodka every week to keep the bacteria going strong and had no cycle at all.

I put my ballasts on rails of Starboard like your lights so I can slide them out if needed and they get air from all sides.

im waiting for the plywood to skin it,not sure when ill get it but i dont think too long.

i didnt use anything cooking, just double rinsed the rocks every week and changed the water every week.the rocks were ultra clean when i placed them in and had no foul smell at all.

i like the ballast idea,do you have a door they can slide out of?i ordered five 15"x15" square doors, they should be here soon.i may need you to help me do some mods to the front doors greg, but im not sure yet on that.

Where exactly are the ballast slides? Maybe I missed it earlier, but I just can't figure out where you put them. Looking great so far though.

I see, I was trying to envision your setup and it was looking like yours so I wasn't sure if it was just a weird angle. It is a cool idea though. What about mounting then to the underside of the stand? Are you trying to put them in a certain spot?

im still not sure of what to do with them.i can go under the stand as im not worried about the tank leaking but i was thinking of putting them on top of the hood in the back, they would get better airflow across them.

I like mine on the hood, less heat inside the stand, keeps them out of sight, easy to get to if I need them still.

And as tall as your setup will be, no one will be able to see them. I also agree with the airflow idea as well. Nice thing with those Ice Cap ballasts, they run pretty cool. I can touch mine after the 250 ballast has been on for 8 or so hours, it still isn't that hot to the touch, relatively speaking.

im going to put the ballasts up on top of the hood,i just feel better knowing they get good air flow.greg came by today and had a nice sheet of oak ply for me :) now i can begin the hood skin work.i also made a nice little stand for my 15g cube tank from the left over ply from the stand build.the cube tank will be my quarantine tank for my 150g and all corals will go in the cube before they get moved into the display.
