im going to break it in on its own.it is producing some skimmate but nothing big yet,it is however kind of stinky :)

Greg, what does the vinegar do?

The vinegar cleans the skimmer and actually leaves a film which acts as a carbon source giving the bacteria a kick start, this gets a good / fast slime coat on the shimmer which is the whole idea of the break in.

we have skimmate :)

Checkinhawk, that's an awesome overflow idea. is the guttergard glued in too?

i glued the eggcrate to the back of the overflow and the gutter guard is just wedged into the fronts of the overflows.

thanks guys,im real happy with how it turned out and it is starting to skim better today.i cleaned the cup before work and it has about 1/2" of skimmate in the cup now.

Just give it a week or two and then it will be working like a champ. Especially since the skimmer you had in there was so small.

Hey Chris, is that light rack of yours a custom build or is it something I can run and get at my local Lowes. The way my doors on the canopy are designed I can pull the lights competely out of the canopy, which would make changing them easy and I remember yours being on rails. Also I'm guessing the metal is powder coated stainless or is it something else?

it is just off the shelf 1 1/2" angle aluminum(not coated)and a couple of strips of 1/2" black starboard for the slides.nothing fancy but it works and is cheap.

well folks a few weeks back my achilles tang started showing signs of ich so i desided to QT all my fish and treat them all at once.i also found out that i might very well have some redbugs,as of now im 100% sure i have them because i purchased one of the corals that was part of that nasty thread(you know which one lol).that being said i did buy it knowing it had redbugs(but only after hawkster pointed them out),i purchased it only because i knew that i was nuking my tank with interseptor on saturday(today).now..............i see all this as a good thing........why you may ask?
1- i get to QT all the fish and get them ich free
2- i get to insure that my tank is BUGFREE
3- i get to reaquascape the tank to make 2 islands
4- i learn to QT and treat everything
and last but not least 5- i get a new 120g lookdown saltwater pond in my bedroom lolololololol

so i now have all fish in QT and my display was just nuked with its first dose.

now i have to thank Paul for coming by and helping me catch the fish and putting the liverock back in.
i am very and i mean VERY pleased with the way the rockwork came out and think it will look great once the corals grow out.
