Project 150 gallon had officially started

thanks billy i think it came out nice.and thanks on the bugs,i feel better knowing im treating and wont have any bugssssssssss.the pond is funny but all the fish are getting along good in it and there is plenty of room for the tangs to swim.

I want to thank you for being 1 of the good reefers that isnt afraid to admit that they have a pest and that is taking the steps to take care of it.

Has the skimmer broken in yet? Hows it working for you?

no problem billy,i not the kind of guy to pass the bugs along.i will treat it and be clean :)the skimmer is broke in and skims wonderfully.i get at least 2" of skim every day.

Looks great! I like the BB and the two islands. Once your corals grow in it is going to look awesome.

You know, the red bug thing, it is kinda a blessing in disguise because you can start over and be sure to be pest free. I like that idea.

I do have one question on quarantine tanks. Do you have to drain and clean them after every time you quarantine something? Kinda seems like that would be a pain.

Thanks,

Mike

thanks mike i really love the way the rocks came out,and yes the redbugs are a blessing in desguise as well as the ich.as for the QT question,i dont think you need to clean the tank after every time, just maintain it like a regular tank(but dont qoute me on that).mflamb really is the QT master and would be the best one to answer QT questions.

Mike,
For SPS, I dip in TMPCC and FWE, then place the coral in the QT tank. When I have all the corals that I want at the time, I treat the QT with interceptor twice. After the interceptor treatment, I do large water changes a couple times a week for a couple weeks, while running carbon. If all looks well, the corals go in the display, and the QT is ready to go again. I keep the biowheels from my emporer in my sump, so the QT can be ready for fish any time it doesn't have coral in it.

here is a stupid question. Do you need any bioloagial filtration if you don't have fish in the tank? QT ing corals.

Not a stupid question at all. I don't use any biological filtration. I use a skimmer, a UV, an emporer with carbon, a heater, and lots of water changes.

we are still talking about the QT tank only righ, but dosn't the emporer have biological filtration it is a bio wheel right?

Thanks for the info

You are correct, but the biowheels are removeable. I just use the emproer to flow water through bag of carbon with corals after treatments.

ok saturday was my first redbug treatment and it went over easy, the fish are in QT and all doing fine with no signs of aggression.the corals dont seem to have any ill effects from the treatment(wasnt sure what they might do).let me know if you spot any redbugs,i have been looking but see nothing.2 more treatments and i SHOULD be clean.

well i did the third treatment tonight and saw the pod snow storm again :( oh well at least that was the last time i need to treat for the bugs.it feels nice knowing that i am BUG FREE,now if i could just get my fish back in the tank id be real happy.i think i can put them back in around the beginning of december.i also FINALLY got my ATO setup and running.we had a leftover water tank at work that i cut down to get the volume i wanted.so now instead of me adding 5g a day..........everyday..........i have a 25g tank so it should last around 5 days.

here are some recent pics of corals,i havent lost any color so far doing the treatments and having no fish to feed them.

so i finally mounted my doors today......lol.........it took me almost 2 months to hang them, you can tell ive been getting lazy.i was having problems with the doors as they were a little too big to fit the area,so brucem suggested i trim them down a little bit and glue and biscut the doors together.so thats what i did,now i just need to stain and clearcoat the door and its done.
