Yes and no. There is an old thread, but I can't seem to link to it. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=921143
Short version: one half died after a few months because I messed up. The other half lived for about 18 months but never really thrived. So ultimately, No.

Apparently carpets can release stinging cells into the water

I think all host anemones can.

Ok again it's defiantly a rittteri trust me! I know what I'm talking about it was once 2 feet across and split. Tenticles of ritteri bubble up and stretch out. It also has textured base and blunt tips and a very strong sting, so much that it hurts, his internal tissue is nothing like a bta non transparent very tough and milky white and it reacted completely different then the 50 or so bta's I have fragged. It also doesn't get along with my 4 different types of bta's.

Anyways it has been 3 days and one side is building a mouth other side not there yet.

You do know there has been a 30+ inch mag in captivity? Also been cases of mags splitting in captivity. Ritteris tentacles don't bubble up nor stretch out, fyi.

Yes, but this is defiantly a ritteri no question, if you saw it in person and new what to look for it would be obvious and yes ritteri can retract its tentacles and if you actually look the tentacles are not bubble up they are actually deformed or club shaped. The original specimen had long nice tentacles after it split on its own this one has always been like this.

Plus when have you ever seen a purple BTA with non transparent tentacles or base, and that amout of tentacles that are non tapered and blunt tip?

I can say it doesn't look normal, ritteri or bta, it's a strange specimen. Good luck with your cuts, I hope they do well for you.

It's been 7 full days and both pcs are still alive and almost have mouths, heal rate is much slower then cutting bubble tips

FWIW my current mag is a natural split. It's been over 5 weeks since it first started dividing, and I'd suggest that it's still not completely healed. Part of the 'mantle' remains folded over the split area and the mouth, though now largely intact, remains on one side of the animal.
