Propagating my mag *pics*

Well I wasn't going to post but decided I wanted to share my experiance and show some new pictures of my mag.

Started out with a healthy purple base yellow tip mag about 10 inches. Grew to 12+. No deflating since day 10 so it acclimated to my system fairly quick. Since day 10 the health of the mag kept up. Strong foot holding it self up. Eatting well. Very sticky tentacles with a good sting. Never move from the rock island. So decided in the future that I will propagate this mag. Just when was the question. Did plenty of research with tools, meds, lighting and flow. When I decided I was confidence enough I started the process.

This pic shows the nem happy and healthy in my system.

This pic shows me moving the island so the nem touch the glass hoping it would climb up so removal of the nem would be easy. Never happen since the nem likes the smooth rock.

No more nem. Took about an hour with ice cubes and a credit card to remove the nem.

What was used in the process.

This picture shows a newly cut nem. Had to make 2 cuts down the middle due to the size of the nem. Then placed in the tank water to spew some slime. Which wasn't much.

Rigged up my basket and dropped the nem in the basket within 30 mins. Was already footed in the bucket. Good sign.

Left the nem to be. In the morning they both footed and seems fine.

After 24 hours. puffy feet means on the move. Searching for flow or light. Don't know which.

Day 4 both on one side. Guess they wanted more light.

As of today they seem fine. Not a complete circle yet but I know it takes a while. No meds at all. I think if a mag or bta split on their own. They are best to be left alone and heal. The owner never treat newly split bta with any meds and they heal and do fine. So why would I? This is the route I'm taking and want to document my process and share. If any question or comment made please try to stay on topic. Thanks and enjoy.

Based on the fact that mine has twice recovered from going through a powerhead and been chewed up quite badly, I would say they your chances are pretty good.

Mine liked to get away from the light a little when it was recovering. You might try to find a way to gives your's the option of moving down or under something.

Nightly update

Still haven't moved in 2 days since my lighting came back on regular times. Still hanging on the right side and could easily move to the left where lighting is less intense. If that is the case I will start adding some window screen or extra eggcrate I have laying around. More pics for your viewing pleasure.

Kessil at 60% haven't ramp it up to 100 since I received it.

Kessil at 15% to take pic so it won't be too blue.

Thanks for posting, this is great. I'm sure you've seen the video if the mag at Vivid getting fragged. More mags for all!

A healthy mag can live but not one that is new to a system.

Just be careful the base is a little bleached. The mos important thing is flow they need to be to let the cut heal and breath.

Do you bave a uv sterilizer?

No UV. Never used one before. Never got into using them and I don't think I will. Thanks for the tip about the base. I will keep an eye on it. It hasn't been feed in 2 weeks today. But was fed often prior to the week before cut. Once healed I will start to feed to get the nem strength back up due to the stressful event.

I couldn't believe they cut that thing, but seeing the two week update makes me very hopeful. I remember seeing that color morph (purple base, green tentacles with purple tips) a lot when I worked at a local fish store about 10 years ago but none of them came in healthy. Now I realize how hard to come by they are and that particuliar color morph is my all time favorite one. I sure hope they succeed because I would shell out some serious clams for a healthy one.

Deflated picture taken 3 days ago. Puff up after water change. Haven't deflated since.

Still healing. But completed the circle. Not close to done. Maybe another week.

New toy for when the mag gets healthy.
