proper cupramine dosing, first time question

Unfortunately my Copperband came up with Ich after 3 weeks in a 4 week cycle. We just finished our second round of prazipro. I understand the equation is this:


(.381) * (strength of dose) * (gallons being treated) = mL of Cupramine to dose

My tank is: (.381) * (.5mg/L) * (20 gallons) = 3.81mL of Cupramine to dose

So sounds like I need to ramp the dose up to full a little at a time, and check with the test kit at 1/2 way. Sound correct?

Then maintain the therapeutic dose for 14 days, adding appropriate amount of cupramine after water changes to maintain the proper dose, of course.

I would maintain the dose for 4 weeks (two life cycles). 14 days is not long enough IME. Be sure to check copper levels every day, preferably in the evening before lights out (since that is when the infective stage emerges).

wow... 4 weeks, huh? I know you know, but that's twice what seachem calls for...

Also, being a newb, where did the .381 number come from? I know the other quantities..

Okay, somethings not right here. The seachem instructions say to use 1mL of cupramine for every 10.5g of water. This is a 20g tank, so it will be slightly less than 2mL of cupramine to treat to reach the proper dose.

The concentration of this 16oz bottle indicates 10,000mg/L.

This math is not my strong point. Can someone help me out here?

I dosed 1mL already, which looks like slightly more than half way in one shot. Not good.

I just went through this a few weeks ago....

The dose that is on the bottle is 1/2 dose... it says to do it 2x.......

the TOTAL combined dosage is easy to figure here..

it took a full .5 mg/L dose to get my guys under control.
take the total dose and break it up into atleast 3rds and 12 - 24 hrs between each...

DO NOT USE ANY AMMONIA REDUCING COMPOUNDS......
