Proposed 90 gallon stock list.

This is my current stock plan for my new 90 gallon reef.

1st Wave: Female Bellus Angelfish
Firefish

2nd Wave: Candy Cane Hogfish
5-6 Carberryi Anthias

3rd Wave: Pair of Clownfish
Pair of Yasha Gobies W. Shrimp

4th Wave: Declivis Butterflyfish (Once the Corals are well established, one of my dream fish, so hopefully he doesnt turn my reef into a fowlr...)
Yellow Assessor

5th Wave: Chevron Tang

Opinions welcomed! The tank wont be ready for Inhabitants for about a month, but im hoping to set up a quarantine and get the 1st wave within a few weeks.

P.S. Im getting conflicting advise for a quarantine tank setup. Here on RC says hob filter and heater, with pvc pipe, and run multiple meds such as prazipro. LFS says run hob-skimmer and copper. What do you suggest?

Ik liveaquaria says that, and that much of their advise is usually correct. But from reading most of snorvich's advise from the "Please check your livestock purchase here first!" thread, he seems to think 90 is marginal for the chevron tang, if the tang outgrows my tank I will find him a new home, but Im hoping that this wont be the case...

I don't think a Chevy will grow to its full size in captivity but I have seen some that are 6-7 inches. Not sure if a 4 ft tank is suitable.
 
I might pass on the hogfish. I was really wanting one but everyone said they regretted putting theirs in their tank later on when they got some size on them and became aggressive.

As far as QT, I use a hob, powerhead and heater with some PVC to hide in. I've only QTed one fish at a time. I use seeded Matrix from my DT in the QT.
 
I personally wouldn't do the declivis. It'll likely eat your coral, to the coral's detriment, especially in a 90g.

Which meds you use in QT depends on what disease you are treating. Ideally you don't want to use more than one med at a time, but instead, consecutively, if need be. I tend to use cupramine first, then prazi later.
 
A smaller species of tang (kole, tomini, etc) would probably be better in a 90. That's what I'm planning at least for my 90. I'd go with what SDguy says on the bflyfish cause he's the expert around here on em.

QT - It's all up to what you prefer for treatment. I use a HOB filter & heater with PVC pipes as hiding spots and treat with hyposalinity and prazi - though I have cupramine on hand if I run into a resistant strain of ich.

So it sounds like the Hogfish will be a bit of a problem later on, Maybe exchange him for a peaceful fairy wrasse of some kind? Im kina disappointed the the Declivis isnt going to work out, one of my all time favorite fish, but it sound like its for the best... As for the Chevron il think about it, I kina had my heart set on one, but if it will outgrow my tank and become a terror I probably shouldn't acquire one of them. Thanks for the input guys, any suggestions on fish welcomed!
 
I wouldn't get the hogfish.Maybe try a pyramid butterfly or a longnosed?These are the most reed safe butterflyfish,maybe suited for 5-6 foot tanks though....I would maybe leave out the wrasse or tang from this setup.For a 90 you are at your limits almost.

2 Percula clowns or 2 false percula.
2 yasha gobies
And maybe a Blenny of some sort to finish things off?

That's kind of a lot of fish for a reef,I wouldn't add in any more.

Thanks for being honest, yeah I know im kind of overstocking. I was planning on getting a 125, but the craigslist purchase fell through. So I settled on a 90, now im trying to modify my original plan...
 
There are lots of possibilities for a 90 gallon :)

Looks good,sleep slightly overstocked

I would take out the butterflyfish or bellus angelfish.Or the clownfish pair.
Remember,the 4 foot 90 is the absolute smallest Id recommend for the butterflyfish and the bellus. :)
