Based on your description it has to do with a water chemistry change and not a problem with the skimmer. You can do water changes and wait it out. It will eventually go back to normal.

I placed a 2 inch paver underneath it, still overflowed. So I waited another four days and plugged it back in, now it works great! Who knows.

clean the volute with a pin or something. it will happen again. if the bubbles start to move down toward the plate you know something is obstructing it. it was almost a year befote I figured out what caused the same thing on mine

I have the very same skimmer and suffered the same issue as you. I put it in a bucket of vinegar and ran it for about 4 hours. After that, put it back in my tank (which is now just 1 month old) and it is doing an awesome job. (I have it dialed in at 3).
