I have a 133 gallon reef setup and I am running a Aqua C v120. I have been running it for about a year and I seem to still be getting a bit of algae growing in my tank and my nitrate seems to be a little high. Should I have bought the V180 instead?

are you growing any macro algae in a fuge or anything? are you using rodi water or tap water?

how often do you feed? when using frozen food do you thaw it and rinse with ro water?
many frozen foods contain phosphates as a preservative.

You doing water changes? Skimming doesn't replace those, just helps out.

The cv 120 skims OK. On a scale of 1 to 10. I would say a 7. I dont know if its to small for my tank. I have tried to grow marco algae in my sump but it does not do very well. I use ro water. I do water changes but currently I do not have any fish in it just coral. Even when I did have fish the skimmer did not seem to skim enough.
