Just a reminder that having a generator in this hobby is soooo important. We are currently in hour 15 of a blackout in the West SFV and I would be beyond screwed without one. I have a 8 year old Honda 2000i that started up on the 5th pull. It's currently running my entire 100g system with 2 Radions, Heater, Skimmer, pumps... EVERYTHING.

Also running refrigerator, 4 fans and entire entrainment center for TV and Internet.

Best investment you can make to protect yourself.

Stay safe!

Oh man... I keep getting text alerts from LADWP saying power outages in my area. Luckily, I haven't been affected yet. However, evaporative cooling has not been effective the past week or so. We'll see how things shake out but I'm ready for this heat to GO AWAY!!

Yeah man i have a harbor freight 8750 running from 4pm Tuesday to 4 am this morning. 12 hours of black out. Powered my whole house.

I have a brand new harbor freight 2 stroke 900w max unit in my garage if anyone wants to buy.. never run, in box, have a qt of 2 stroke oil to go with. 90501. $80 pickup. i bought a much larger inverter unit for whole house b4 I needed to use it. PM if want.

mp10qd or 1k icecap gyre even trade accepted.

Yep, a generator is the way to go! Huge peace of mind since getting a whole house standby one. They did recently have a cool portable one for sale at Costco, that is TriFuel, meaning it runs on gas, natural gas, and propane. Couldn't resist getting it. Now we have a backup, for the backup!! Only planning to use natural gas or propane with it.

Damn that sucks! I thought we had it bad. How many times did you have to refuel the generator? Your neighbors understanding of having your generator running all night?

Honestly, I would say 6-10 times. We ran the entire house off the thing. I didn't even consider my neighbors. It's a Honda 2000 that is super quiet for what it is.

Couldn't hear it from the street. Also, Spectrum dropped off a massive generator to a switch on the corner. Figure it powers a much larger area than the outage hit.

I love the Honda EU generators! I'm definitely in need of one as I have sleep apnea and will not be able to go to sleep without my CPAP machine. I lost power in my neighborhood several years ago and sat around in the dark until about 11pm. At that point, I took a shower and grabbed a change of clothes and went back to my office and spent the night at work just so I could sleep safely with my CPAP machine.

To power the whole house, do we typically have electrician to install the switch, etc?

Thanks

Yes if you want to power everything in the house. A extension cord will keep things like a light or fridge that is hook up to the power strip. But if you want to turn on other devices around the house the switch at the electrical panel will need to be installed.

^^^^ HOw is that tri fuel generator? is it quiet? How many watts?

Shoot, sorry I missed this. Can't say how it is cause its still in the box, but I am expecting it to be pretty sweet. Running: 7500 watts on gas, 6750 on propane, and 5500 on natural gas. Starting watts are higher across the board. We plan to only ever use it with natural gas and are going to install a quick connect right by the gas meter. That way we dont have to deal with storing gas and it going bad, or cleaning carbs. After all, its just a backup for our 20kw standby backup.
