Fish heads unite!

I've had mine for about 3 years. Ever since I got rid of my anthias (not sure if this is even connected) he's been all black. All the blue (stripes through the face and outline of fins) is faded to black. Occasionally he colors up, so I know it's not a permanent thing or diet thing. It's definitely mood related. Was he happier with anthias to chase? :) He just looks really mean now :(

No one bothers him. He bothers no one. Anyone else experience this with their springeri?

Springeri are usually very gentle and don't bother any other fish.

I've noticed in some of my fish that their colors, general overall health and just plain being more active improves when I have other fish in the tank that compete with them for space in the tank. This may make them fight for territory and thus bring out their full colors.

Peter,

try to get him / her a partner and you will see how color comes up again.
But be aware that adding a fish to one who was alone for such a long time can also bring some conflicts!

Any way to differentiate sex?

So he/she was being outgoing today, so I snapped a pic. Color is fine today....just a moody fish, I guess:

Does look fine in that picture. I don't think there is any different between the male and female but they are captive breeding them. So either there is a difference or they just put a bunch together and them some pair off.
